MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg University women's basketball team dropped its season opener to Gustavus Adolphus College 92-74 on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams connecting on 62.5 percent of their shot attempts. The Auggie shooting went cold in the second quarter and Gustavus was able to build a 46-36 lead at the intermission. Augsburg cut the Gustie lead to six early in the third quarter, but couldn't get any closer as a deep Gustavus team pulled away for the win.

Jen Masello (JR, Darien, Ill./Downers Grove South HS) led Augsburg with a career-high 25-point effort. Masello was 9-of-16 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. She also led all players with eight rebounds, while adding three steals and a pair of blocked shots.

Jaley Coplin (SO, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS), who finished with 14 points, while pulling down four rebounds and adding three steals.
• In her Auggie debut,
Kalena Myers (FY, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) scored 14 points, including a 7-of-8 effort at the free-throw line.
Grace Eastman, in her first Auggie start, scored a career-best 10 points and pulled down a game-high five offensive rebounds.Â
• For the game, Augsburg shot 41.7 percent (25-of-60) from the field, while the Gusties connected on 53.0 percent (35-of-66) of their shot attempts.
• The Gusties claimed a 45-26 advantage on the boards and a 50-32 advantage in points in the paint.
FOR THE FOES
• Gustavus was led by a 25-point effort from Caitlin Rorman, who finished 10-of-15 from the field.
• Paige Richert and Marisa Gustafson added 18 and 17 points respectively for the Gusties.
