Augsburg opens season with loss at UW-La Crosse

LA CROSSE, Wis. -- The Augsburg University women's lacrosse team opened its 2021 season with a 13-4 loss to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in a nonconference game on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg scored the first goal of the game just 2:12 into play, but UW-La Crosse scored the next five goals to take a lead it would not relinquish. The Eagles led 6-2 at halftime, then scored the final four goals of the game for the nine-goal margin.
• Tehya Reinbold (SR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) scored two goals, both on free-position shots. She collected four ground balls and had two caused turnovers.
• Mikayla Knudson (SR, Zimmerman, Minn./Elk River HS) scored a goal with four draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover.
• Megan Furlong (SR, Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) also scored for the Auggies.
• Annabelle Arns (JR, Monticello, Minn./Monticello HS) had three ground balls and a caused turnover, while Alex Hoffman (FY, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) had two ground balls. Annika Hegrenes (SR, Maplewood, Minn./Concordia Academy HS) had two caused turnovers, a draw control and a ground ball.
• Goalie Maddie Seykora (SR, Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) had 16 saves, along with seven ground balls and three caused turnovers.
• UW-La Crosse held a 37-15 advantage in shots, a 26-21 advantage in ground balls and a 12-5 advantage in draw controls.

FOR THE FOES
• Britta Nelson scored three goals with an assist, adding two draw controls and a ground ball. Valerie Johnson scored two goals with five draw controls, and Mackenzie Chvatal and Bella Post also scored two goals each.
• Abi Furlano and Ellen Coggio had two saves each in goal for the Eagles.
