Balanced effort leads Augsburg over St. Mary's

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Augsburg University volleyball team swept St. Mary's University in straight sets in a nonconference match on Saturday afternoon in Moorhead, Minn. 

THE BASICS 
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg def. St. Mary's 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-15)
LOCATION: Memorial Auditorium, Moorhead, Minn.
RECORDS: Augsburg 2-0 overall, St. Mary's 0-1 overall

HOW IT HAPPENED 
• The Auggies had a well-balanced effort on both sides of the ball, leading to an efficient sweep of the Cardinals. Augsburg hit .301 in the match, with eight service aces and six team blocks. 
• Leading the Auggies with seven kills and 14 digs was Kayla Gjerde (JR, Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS). Mikayla Coops (FY, Belle Plaine, Minn./Belle Plaine HS) had 11 digs, six kills, four service aces and two block assists. 
• Hitting at a .375 clip, Corrina Evans (SR, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) had six kills. Jade Fullerton (JR, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) had five kills and led the Auggies with five block assists. 
Jade Boysen (JR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) and Maddie Nierengarten (SR, Foley, Minn./Princeton HS) both finished with four kills. Nierengarten added eight digs, two assists, a block assist and an ace. Boysen had two block assists.  
Lexie Lang (JR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) collected 12 assists, nine digs, a kill and a service ace. Izzy Barr (JR, River Falls, Wis./River Falls HS) finished with 13 assists, seven digs and an ace. Finishing with six digs and four assists was Katie O'Rourke (SO, Columbia Heights, Minn./Irondale HS). 

FOR THE FOES
• Ciarra McNally had a match-best eight kills. 
• Mandy Schmidt had a match-high 14 assists, while Linnaea Wallis led the Cardinals with 12 digs.
