Auggie volleyball falls to Bennies

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. -- The Augsburg University volleyball team played a close Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match with the College of Saint Benedict but came up short, losing in straight sets on Wednesday night in Claire Lynch Hall. 

THE BASICS 
FINAL SCORE: Saint Benedict def. Augsburg 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-21)

RECORDS: Augsburg 2-1 overall (1-1 MIAC), Saint Benedict 3-0 overall (2-0 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED 
• Augsburg out-hit CSB .317-to-.273 in the match, but the Bennies' nine service aces to the Auggies' 10 service errors were a deciding factor in the Auggie loss. 
• The Auggies were led at the net by Jade Boysen (JR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS), who finished with 14 kills, hitting at a .500 clip. Boysen also had two blocks and four digs. 
Mikayla Coops (FY, Belle Plaine, Minn./Belle Plaine HS) and Corrina Evans (SR, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) earned nine kills each, hitting .563 and .400 respectively. Coops added nine digs and an assist, while Evans had three block assists and two digs. 
• Setters Lexie Lang (JR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) and Izzy Barr (JR, River Falls, Wis./River Falls HS) finished with 21 and 15 assists respectively. 
• Kayla Gjerde (JR, Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) had eight kills and eight digs for the Auggies. Maddie Nierengarten (SR, Foley, Minn./Princeton HS) collected nine digs and an assist. 

FOR THE FOES
• Hunter Weiss and Madison Weiss had 10 kills each, hitting .667 and .400 respectively, to lead the Bennies.  
• Mackenzie McDonald had a match-high 14 digs, while Katie Koch had a match-best 34 assists.

• Augsburg hosts the University of St. Thomas in its home-opener on Wednesday (4/7) at 7 p.m at Si Melby Hall.
