Auggies swept by Yellowjackets

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg University softball team dropped a doubleheader to complete its opening weekend of the 2021 season, falling 7-0 and 8-0 (six innings) to the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Saturday afternoon at Edor Nelson Field.

THE BASICS
SCORES: Wisconsin-Superior 7, Augsburg 0; Wisconsin-Superior 8, Augsburg 0 (6 inn.)
LOCATION: Edor Nelson Field, Minneapolis
RECORD: Augsburg 0-4 overall, UW-Superior 2-2 overall

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Augsburg was held to just two hits in the game -- a single by Grace Syson (FY, Oshkosh, Wis./Lourdes Academy HS) in the sixth inning and a single by Kayla Hanson (JR, St. James, Minn./St. James HS) in the seventh.
• Augsburg's best chance to score came in the bottom of the sixth, when a walk by Sabriya Passmore (SO, Apple Valley, Minn./Apple Valley HS) and Syson's base hit put runners on second and third with one out. But a flyout and groundout ended the Auggie threat.
• Passmore started in the pitching circle and struck out two against four walks in three innings of work. Olivia O'Connor (FY, White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) had four strikeouts against two walks in four innings of relief.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• The game was a scoreless affair through the first five innings, but the Yellowjackets scored three runs on a two-error play in the bottom of the fifth, then scored five runs in the sixth inning to end the game via the NCAA eight-run rule.
• Augsburg was again limited to two hits in the game -- a leadoff single in the first by Passmore and a single by Bella Kallas (SR, Big Lake, Minn./Big Lake HS) in the third.
• Kallas pitched a complete game in the circle, striking out one against one walk.

FOR THE FOES
