MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg University baseball team dropped two close games to St. Mary's University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Parade Stadium.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Pitcher
Mathew Nicklay (SR, Hastings, Minn./Hastings HS) threw a complete game for Augsburg, giving up three runs on only five hits. Nicklay struck out five batters and gave up one walk, against 27 batters faced.
• St. Mary's scored solo runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings. Augsburg was held scoreless and only earned one hit in the game, with
Ty Gage (FY, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) hitting an infield single in the third inning.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• Both the Auggies and Cardinals scored a single run in the first inning of the second game.
Michael Weiss (SO, Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar HS) hit a RBI single through the middle, scoring
Kyle Hoppe (SR, Andover, Minn./Andover HS) for the first Augsburg run of the day.
• The Cardinals added another run in the third inning, taking a 2-1 lead. The Auggies tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth, when Weiss hit a leadoff single to left field.
Carson Tomony (SO, Madison, Wis./Madison East HS) laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt, advancing Weiss. Weiss then crossed the plate on a Cardinals' fielding error.
• The Auggies trailed 5-2 going into the bottom of the eighth inning, but was able to add one run off a bases-loaded RBI walk drawn by
Josh Tyler (SR, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS), scoring
Jack Baumgart (JR, Willmar, Minn./Willmar HS).
• Still down by two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, Augsburg was able to load the bases with no outs. Baumgart drew a RBI walk, plating
Reilly Nolin (SR, Hastings, Minn./Hastings HS) and cutting the score deficit to one. However, three straight strikeouts ended the game, giving St. Mary's the 5-4 win.
• Weiss finished the game 3-for-5, all singles.
Steven Salz (SO, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) had a double and a single for the Auggies.
Matt Krenz (JR, Becker, Minn./Becker HS),
Clint Mattson (SO, North Branch, Minn./North Branch HS) and Hoppe had a single each.

Austin Jerylo (JR, Stillwater, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) got the pitching start and threw six innings for Augsburg.
Chase Thomley (SR, St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park HS) threw three innings of relief, striking out four batters. Both runs given up by Thomley were unearned.
FOR THE FOES
• In game one, Ryan Wolfe pitched a complete game, one-hit shutout -- striking out nine and not surrendering a walk.
• Taylor Anderson went 3-for-6 in the doubleheader, hitting a RBI in game one and scoring a run in game two.
