COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The Augsburg University baseball team lost the final game of the three-game Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series with St. John's University on Sunday afternoon at Becker Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg collected 12 hits in the game, scoring five runs, but St. John's had 14 hits, scoring 11 runs. The Auggies left 11 base-runners stranded.

Clint Mattson (SO, North Branch, Minn./North Branch HS) started the game with a lead-off infield single, then came around to score on a RBI fielder's choice by
Jack Baumgart (JR, Willmar, Minn./Willmar HS). The Auggies held the 1-0 lead until the third inning, when the Johnnies scored five runs off six hits.
• Augsburg responded in the next frame, scoring two runs to cut the deficit to 5-3.
Connor Stoik (SO, Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial HS) doubled down the right field line, then
Ty Gage (FY, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) singled to right center. Stoik crossed home plate on a
Rico Rodriguez (SO, Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) RBI fielder's choice, while Gage scored on a
Kyle Hoppe (SR, Andover, Minn./Andover HS) sacrifice fly to center field.
• St. John's added five more runs, taking a 10-3 lead heading into the top of the seventh inning. Augsburg was able to collect three hits and two unearned runs, off
Noah Thomas (SO, Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge HS) and
Carson Tomony (SO, Madison, Wis./Madison East HS), in the seventh. Thomas scored on a Johnnies' error and Tomony scored on a Baumgart single to center field.
Reilly Nolin (SR, Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake HS) and Tomony accounted for the other two Auggie hits in the inning, both singles.
• The Johnnies scored one run in the bottom of the seventh and the game would remain scoreless after that, finalizing the 11-5 Augsburg loss.
• Thomas finished 2-for-3, hitting two singles and drawing a walk. Gage finished 2-for-4, hitting a double in the second inning, only one-of-two extra-base hits of the game for Augsburg.
• Stoik got the pitching start, striking out three and giving up no walks in three innings of work.
Chase Thomley (SR, St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park HS) pitched three innings of relief, striking out three batters against one walk. Throwing two innings of relief was
Matthew Rones (JR, Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman HS).
FOR THE FOES
• Ethan Roe had a two-run homer for the Johnnies, while Max Nyrop had a grand slam in the sixth inning.
• Starting pitcher, Alex Otto struck out six batters in 6.2 innings, giving up five runs but only two were earned.
