Baseball falls to Bethel 4-2

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. -- The Augsburg University baseball team dropped another close game to Bethel University, losing 4-2 in a nonconference game on Tuesday afternoon. 

THE BASICS
SCORE: Bethel 4, Augsburg 2
LOCATION: Hargis Park, Arden Hills, Minn.
RECORD: Augsburg 7-24 overall, Bethel 21-15 overall 

HOW IT HAPPENED 
• Bethel got on the board first, scoring three runs on three hits in the third inning. Augsburg scored one run in both the fifth and seventh innings, closing the deficit to 3-2. The Royals were able to add a run in the bottom half of the seventh, then held the Auggies scoreless, securing the 4-2 win. 
Reilly Nolin (SR, Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake HS) and Steven Salz (SO, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) accounted for the first two Augsburg hits of the game, which were both singles.
• Nolin singled again in the fifth inning, then came around to score on a single to left field by Clint Mattson (SO, North Branch, Minn./North Branch HS).
Matt Krenz (JR, Becker, Minn./Becker HS), Mattson and Connor Stoik (SO, Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial HS) all hit singles in the seventh inning, with Krenz scoring the second Auggie run of the game and Stoik earning a RBI. 
• Seven pitchers saw the mound for Augsburg, with Mathew Nicklay (SR, Hastings, Minn./Hastings HS) getting the start and suffering the loss. 

FOR THE FOES 
• Matthew Carlsen went 2-for-3 in the game and earned two RBI for the Royals. 
• Pitcher, Ty Koehn threw two innings of relief and earned the save. Koehn struck out three of the six batters he faced. 

UP NEXT
• Augsburg hosts St. Mary's in the first game of the best-of-three MIAC Play-In Series, on Saturday (5/15) at 1 p.m. at the University of Minnesota's Siebert Field in Minneapolis.
