MINNEAPOLIS -- The No. 22-ranked Augsburg University volleyball team split its final two matches of its own Augsburg Invitational on Saturday, falling to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in a close five-set match and then defeating the University of Dubuque (Iowa) in straight sets.
Jade Fullerton (SR, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) was named to the all-tournament team for her outstanding performance.
MATCH 3 - AUGSBURG VS. UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-LA CROSSE
FINAL SCORE: UW-La Crosse def. Augsburg 3-2 (24-26, 19-25, 25-20, 25-22, 15-12)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The match was a back-and-forth battle between Augsburg and UW-La Crosse, with 33 tie scores throughout the match. The Auggies won the first two sets before dropping the next three sets to the Eagles. Neither team had an outstanding offensive showing, Augsburg hit just .144 percent while UW-La Crosse had a .165 hitting percentage for the match. The Auggies collected seven team blocks to the Eagles' six.
• Fullerton had a team-best 13 kills -- hitting .433 -- and added five blocks (2 solo), three digs and an assist.
Kayla Gjerde (SR, Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) earned her fourth kill-dig double-double of the year with 10 kills and 16 digs. Finishing with 11 kills was
Kevin Boysen (SR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS).

Corrina Evans (SR, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) and
Mikayla Coops (SO, Belle Plaine, Minn./Belle Plaine HS) both tallied seven kills for Augsburg. Evans added seven digs and two blocks (1 solo), while Coops had two block assists and a service ace.

Izzy Barr (SR, River Falls, Wis./River Falls HS) collected her first assist-dig double-double of the season with 17 assists and 11 digs.
Lexie Lang (SR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) had match-high 30 assists, adding seven digs, three kills and two service aces.

Maddie Nierengarten (SR, Foley, Minn./Princeton HS) had 17 digs and six kills, while
Angel Khang (SO, Maplewood, Minn./North St. Paul HS) finished with team-high 18 digs, adding five assists and an ace.
FOR THE FOES
• Emma Lawrence led UW-La Crosse, earning match-best 20 kills and 21 digs. Brianne Korducki finished with 10 kills.
• Jackie Oetterer had 21 assists and 11 digs, while Megan Adams had 19 assists, nine digs and four service aces.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Defeating Dubuque in straight sets, Augsburg's offense improved each set of the match and finished with its second-highest hitting percentage of the season at .385, while holding Dubuque to a .160 clip. The Auggies only trailed the Spartans three times in the match, each time the deficit was only a single point.
• Pacing the Auggie offense was
Brianna Van Well (SO, Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) and Boysen, finishing with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Van Well hit at a .550 clip and added two digs and a block assists, while Boysen had an impressive .615 hitting percentage and had two block assists and a dig.
• Finishing with eight kills each were Gjerde and Coops. Gjerde claimed five digs and a block assists. Coops had four digs, three service aces and two block assists.
• Fullerton collected six kills, three block assists and two digs for Augsburg.
• Earning her fifth assist-dig double-double of the season with 28 assists and 10 digs was Lang, while adding two aces and a block assist. Barr finished with 11 assists, six digs and a block assist.
• Khang led the Auggies defensively with 11 digs, also collecting an assist and a service ace.
FOR THE FOES
• Julie May had nine kills and two block assists for the Spartans, while Emma Powell had seven kills.
• Kate Messino had 22 assists, seven digs and one ace.
