Auggie volleyball wins both at UW-Eau Claire Invite

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. -- The Augsburg University volleyball team defeated both the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Lakeland University by 3-1 scores at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Tournament on Saturday. Kevin Boysen (SR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) was named to the all-tournament team for her outstanding performance.

RECORDS: Augsburg 6-4 overall, UW-Oshkosh 7-6 overall

HOW IT HAPPENED 
• It was a very evenly-matched contest between Augsburg and UW-Oshkosh, with the Auggies hitting at a .272 clip for the match compared to the Titans' .248. UW-Oshkosh had 10 team blocks to Augsburg's seven, but the Auggies held a eight-to-four advantage in service aces. Despite dropping the first set, Augsburg went on to win the next three sets to claim its third victory in a row. 
• While continuing to handle the setting duties alone, Lexie Lang (SR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) set a career-best for assists with 45 in the match. Lang added six digs, six kills and three aces. 
• The Auggies were lead offensively by Kayla Gjerde (SR, Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) who finished with 15 kills and 11 digs, adding another kill-dig double-double on her career, along with two aces and two blocks (1 solo). Boysen had 12 kills, three digs and a block assist. 
• Jade Fullerton (SR, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) collected nine kills and four blocks (2 solo), while Corrina Evans (SR, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) finished with seven kills, two digs and two aces. 
• Maddie Nierengarten (SR, Foley, Minn./Princeton HS) and Angel Khang (SO, Maplewood, Minn./North St. Paul HS) had 12 digs each. Nierengarten added six kills and three assists, while Khang had two kills and an assist. 
Brianna Van Well (SO, Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) had three kills for the Auggies, while Georgia Paul (FY, Fargo, N.D./Fargo North HS) chipped in seven digs. 

FOR THE FOES
• Riley Kindt earned match-best kills with 16, also adding five digs and four blocks (one solo). Carissa Sundholm had 12 kills and eight digs, while Robyn Kirsch finished with 10 kills.
• Kalli Mau had 31 assists and seven digs, while Amelia Hust had team-high 11 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
• A strong defensive effort at the net was the key to the Auggies 3-1 set victory over Lakeland, with Augsburg recording 12 team blocks. Neither team could gain any offensive momentum, with Augsburg hitting at just .116 percent while holding the Muskies to a .015 hitting percentage for the match.  
• Fullerton led the Auggies at the net, collecting an impressive six blocks (2 solo) and eight kills, hitting at a .438 clip. Boysen also finished with eight kills, adding four blocks (1 solo). 
• Lang had 20 assists, nine digs, five kills and two blocks. Nierengarten finished with team-best 16 digs, while Evans and Paul had seven and six digs respectively. 
• Van Well and Emily Kaup (FY, Omaha, Neb./Duchesne Academy HS) both finished with four kills. Kaup also chipped in five digs and a block assist. 

FOR THE FOES
• Susana Stevens had eight kills and two block assists for the Titans, while S'Niya Gantt had six kills. 
• Emily Duchow earned an asssist-dig double-double with 18 assists and 11 digs.

• Augsburg resumes Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Wednesday (9/22), hosting Saint Mary's University at 7 p.m. at Si Melby Hall.
