WAVERLY, Iowa -- The Augsburg University volleyball team opened up at the Wartburg Invitational on Friday evening with two matches, dropping the first match 3-1 to Coe College and the second match 3-0 to #10 Wartburg College.
AUGSBURG VS. COE COLLEGE
FINAL SCORE: Coe (Iowa) def. Augsburg 3-1 (17-25, 26-24, 25-20, 25-19)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Despite winning the first set handedly and out-hitting Coe .208-to-.154 in the match, the Auggies fell 3-1 to the Kohawks. Augsburg struggled with serve reception, giving up 14 aces in the match.

Kayla Gjerde (SR, Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) earned her sixth kill-dig double-double of the year with 11 kills and 15 digs.
Lexie Lang (SR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) had an assist-dig double-double with match-best 41 assists and 17 digs, also adding five kills.

Brianna Van Well (SO, Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) led the Auggies with 13 kills -- hitting at a .400 clip -- and had four digs and a solo block.

Kevin Boysen (SR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) and
Jade Fullerton (SR, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) finished with 10 and nine kills, respectively. Fullerton had a strong defensive showing at the net, earning four blocks (3 solo).

Angel Khang (SO, Maplewood, Minn./North St. Paul HS) had team-best 22 digs, while
Maddie Nierengarten (SR, Foley, Minn./Princeton HS) chipped in eight digs.

Mikayla Coops (SO, Belle Plaine, Minn./Belle Plaine HS) finished with eight five digs, four kills and assists, a solo block and two service aces -- the only Augsburg aces of the match.
FOR THE FOES
• Kate Tidman earned match-best kills with 15, also adding eight digs, three service aces and two solo blocks.
• Madi Parson finished with 17 digs, 11 kills and two aces; while Majda Suljic had 18 digs, five assists and four service aces. Elli Teeple dished out 39 assists for Coe.

• The Auggies struggled to find their offensive rhythm, hitting only .138, falling to an undefeated No. 10-ranked Wartburg 3-0, for the second time this season.

Kevin Boysen led Augsburg with 11 kills, while adding three blocks (two solo) and two digs.
Kayla Gjerde finished with six digs and five kills.
• Finishing with three kills each was
Corrina Evans (SR, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS),
Jade Fullerton and
Brianna Van Well. Evans and Fullerton had two block assists and a dig each, while Van Well had two digs and a block assist.

Lexie Lang collected her second assist-dig double-double of the day, and eighth of the year, with 20 assists and 11 digs.
Maddie Nierengarten finished with seven digs.

Angel Khang and
Izzy Barr (SR, River Falls, Wis./River Falls HS) had 10 and six Auggie digs, respectively, while they both had a single kill, assist and service ace each.
FOR THE FOES
• Earning match-best kills was Kylie Bildstein with 12, hitting at a .550 clip. picked up match-high 34 assists.
• Claire Marsh earned an assist-dig double-double with 34 assists and 14 digs.
