Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Auggies draw with Johnnies 1-1

MINNEAPOLIS – Despite controlling the pace of play for most of the game, the Augsburg University men's soccer team played to a 1-1 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference draw with Saint John's University on Saturday afternoon at Edor Nelson Field.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg 1, Saint John's 1
LOCATION: Edor Nelson Field, Minneapolis
RECORDS: Augsburg 6-1-3 overall (2-1-2 MIAC), Saint John's 5-1-3 overall (2-1-1 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Saint John's got on the board early when Carter Hermanson found the back of the goal on the Johnnies' first shot of the game in the fourth minute.
• Augsburg answered in the 19th minute with Jakob Mohrlok (SO, Stuttgart, Germany/Schoenbuch Gymnasium) scoring his first goal of the season and first as an Auggie. Nick Zuchowski (SR, Wales, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) recorded his third assist of the season on the goal.
• Despite controlling the ball for 64% of the game and managing 17 shots to the Johnnies' seven, the Auggies ultimately failed to put the ball home for the rest of the game as Saint John's hung on for the 1-1 draw.
• Mizael Harris (FY, Portland, Ore./La Salle Catholic College Prep HS) led the Auggies with four shots while Zuchowski and Kobby Owu (SR, Vadnais Heights, Minn./Como Park HS) had three each.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• The tie marked the 10th in history between the two teams, with the last draw coming in 2008.

FOR THE FOES
• Carter Hermanson led the Johnnies with two shots while Evan Siefken made seven saves in goal.

QUOTES FROM AUGSBURG HEAD COACH GREG HOLKER
• "Giving up a goal in the early minutes of a game needs to stop in order for us to maximize points. We've conceded in the first five minutes like 4-5 times this season. When we get on the game and score first, we are incredible. The positive spin is that we can and will come back. "
• "They scored off a punt. It got tangled up and Hermanson slipped it under an onrushing Herrera, but it was a mess from the moment it left Seifken's foot. It was those long punts and any set piece that the Johnnies threaten you with."
• "Our goal was a free kick right off the training ground, and an absolute gem of a ball by Z. We all thought Nick had scored again in the 80th minute when Seifken was on his back, but somehow, he stuck a leg up in the air to push it up over the bar. He was tremendous for them today."
• "We had a lot of the ball, created more chances, and did a lot of things well. We still have room for growth in front of goal, but we will keep at it. As long as we are getting better every day, we will get where we want to be in the end."
• "Now on Tuesday, we host #24 UW-Eau Claire. They are 13-0 and explosive, so it will be a real test of a non-conference game."

UP NEXT
• Augsburg hosts 24th-ranked UW Eau Claire on Tuesday (10/4) at 7:30 PM at Edor Nelson Field.
