HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg worked its way to an 8-4 advantage early in the first set, but the Oles took four straight to tie it back up at eight each. The teams went back and forth for the remainder of the set with neither team leading by more than three the rest of the way. The Auggies finished the set strong with a kill from Kevin Boysen (SR, Rochester, Minn./Rochester HS) on set point to give them the 25-22 win.
• With another back and forth battle brewing in the second set, the Auggies clung to a narrow 16-15 advantage late. Augsburg won five of the next six points to carve out breathing room, but the Oles fought back and cut the Augsburg lead to just one point at 24-23. Despite the late scare, the Auggies hung on once again with another kill from Boysen to win the set and go up 2-0 in the match.
• Set three managed to be even more competitive than either of its predecessors with neither team leading by more than two at any point in the set. St. Olaf led 24-23 at set point, but the Auggies continued to battle and managed to tie the set back up at 25 each. The two teams continued to go blow-for-blow until Augsburg finally managed to put the match away with a two-point advantage at 32-30.
• Boysen led the Auggie attack once again, hitting .343 with 15 kills and just three errors on 35 attempts while adding in five digs.
• Kayla Gjerde (SR, Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) was also very efficient on the attack, hitting .391 with 12 kills and three errors on 23 attempts and coming within two kills of a double-double with eight. Brianna Van Well (JR, Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) was third on the team with eight kills and five digs in the match.
• Angel Vo (SO, Blaine, Minn./Mounds View HS) and Mikayla Coops (Jr, Belle Plaine, Minn./Belle Plaine HS) had 14 and 12 digs each, respectively.
