ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The 20
th-ranked Augsburg University volleyball team fell to Bethel University in four sets (17-25, 25-12, 24-26, 21-25) on Friday night in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play at the Robertson Center Gym.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Bethel had the hot hand early, jumping out to a 10-2 lead in the first set. The Auggies cut the deficit to five on two separate occasions, but it proved to be all they could do as the Royals won the set 25-17.
• Augsburg flipped the script in a big way in the second set as it opened up a 12-5 lead. The Auggies remained comfortably in control for the remainder of the set, cruising to a 25-12 win to even the match at 1-1.
• Set three was far more competitive than its predecessors with neither team leading by more than two at any point. Tied at 23, a kill by
Kayla Gjerde (SR, Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) put the Auggies on set point. The Royals responded with three straight points to win the set 26-24 and take a 2-1 match advantage.
• Tied 3-3 early in the fourth set, Bethel rattled of five straight to take a lead they would hold for the rest of the set. Augsburg got within two on two occasions, but the Royals hung on for the 25-21 set win to take the match 3-1.

Brianna Van Well (JR, Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) led the Auggie attack, tying her season high with 16 kills and adding four digs. Gjerde notched a double-double with 13 kills and a match-high 21 digs, also contributing four block assists.

Angel Vo (SO, Blaine, Minn./Mounds View HS) was second on the team with 19 digs.
Mikayla Coops (Jr, Belle Plaine, Minn./Belle Plaine HS) nearly finished with a double-double with eight kills and nine digs, also adding 21 assists.
• Augsburg hit .219 with 53 kills and 21 errors on 146 attempts while the Royals hit .213 with 56 kills and 22 errors on 160 attempts.
FOR THE FOES
• Dani Friedges and Kirstin Cotter led the Royals with 14 kills each, with Friedges also tallying 15 digs for the double-double.
