Auggies score impressive 6-2 win over Warhawks

MINNEAPOLIS -- Mizael Harris (FY, Portland, Ore./La Salle Catholic College Prep HS) and Kebba Janneh (SO, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) each scored a pair of goals, as the Augsburg University men's soccer team had a strong outing in beating the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 6-2 on Friday evening at Edor Nelson Field.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg 6, Wisconsin-Whitewater 2
LOCATION: Edor Nelson Field, Minneapolis
RECORDS: Augsburg 10-2-4 overall, UW-Whitewater 10-5-1 overall

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg took a 1-0 lead with Harris' first goal of the game in the 17th minute, then built a 4-0 lead with three goals in a 13-minute span to start the second half -- with Janneh goals bracketing Harris' second goal of the game. But UW-Whitewater struck back, scoring twice in a 1:55 span to trim the lead to 4-2. Augsburg clinched the victory with goals in the 65th and 77th minutes.
• Harris collected a loose ball from Drew Collins (JR, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) in the 18-yard box following a scramble off a corner kick, putting it in the net at the 16:42 mark for his sixth goal of the year.
• Two minutes into the second half, Collins took a corner kick by Nick Zuchowski (SR, Wales, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) and passed it off his back heel to Janneh, who fired the ball from the top of the 18-yard box.
• Harris gave the Auggies a 3-0 lead at the 52:06 mark, scoring on a one-timer in the middle of the 18-yard box off an impressive move on the left wing by Kobby Owu (SR, St. Paul, Minn./Como Park HS). Janneh scored his second goal of the game at the 60:49 mark on a penalty kick -- his second PK of the season -- after Harris was fouled in the 18-yard box.
• Augsburg capped the win with a pair of goals in the final half-hour. Mitchel Munzing (FY, Portland, Ore./Grant HS) scored on a rebound of a Camel Htoo (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Washington HS) blocked shot at the 64:31 mark, and Htoo returned the favor, scoring off a through-ball from Munzing at the 76:38 mark.
• Augsburg outshot UW-Whitewater by a 23-9 margin in the game, and held a 59-to-41-percent possession advantage. Twenty-one different Auggies saw game action.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Augsburg has now outscored its opponents by a 57-11 margin this season -- the second-most goals in a single season in school history. Augsburg outscored its opponents by a 62-19 margin in the 1976 season. Augsburg entered the game as the No. 3-ranked team in scoring average in the NCAA Division III national statistics, averaging 3.40 goals per-game.
• Augsburg has now scored nine penalty-kick goals in 11 attempts -- the most penalty kick goals scored nationally among NCAA Division III teams.
• Janneh now has 13 goals and 29 points on the season, leading Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's overall statistics in both categories. Zuchowski is second in the league in points (24 points, eight goals, eight assists) and Harris is fifth in points (21 points, seven goals, seven assists).
• Janneh's 13 goals are tied for fourth-most in a single season in school history, and one away from tying the school record of 14, set by Mark Schneider in both the 1971 and 1972 seasons, and by Mike Elcano in 2004.

FOR THE FOES
• UW-Whitewater scored twice in a 1:55 span in the second half, as Faizan Mohiuddin scoring from Cooper Re and Andres Villarreal, and Jalen Holley scoring from Peyton Nichols and Mohiuddin.
• Jake King had two saves in 77 minutes in goal for the Warhawks, with Duncan Morgan finishing the final 13 minutes in relief.

QUOTES FROM AUGSBURG HEAD COACH GREG HOLKER
• "Mizael was incredible tonight. His play was so sharp and his goals were timely and efficient. His second goal from Kobby was a sign of growth from the training ground. Those two got into it a day earlier in what was an identical moment where they didn't get it right, and tonight they got it right. That was so fun to see."
• "Kebba just keeps scoring. He's one off the program record, and I got a text message from our all-time leading scorer, Darcy Debing '77, right after the game passing on his congratulations to Kebba and requesting No. 14 and No. 15 next week. I thought it was particularly good of Z to give the penalty to Kebba. Miz did so well to earn it, but you could see the spirit of the group and our values come alive in that moment."
• "Mitch's work rate has been unbelievable and tonight was no different. His goal was a byproduct of that work, and it came right when Whitewater thought they had a chance, scoring two quick goals on us."
• "I thought Jeffrey Richter was a beast tonight -- he was all over the place timing his tackles and connecting lines for us. It was so good from him. Drew Collins had two assists, both on little lay backs from corner kicks, and he was solid in the back again."
• "We get a few days off now before we start prep for the final week of the regular season. St. Olaf is a spectacular team and we have everything to play for on Wednesday. It should be a lot of fun to watch, as both teams are capable of producing lots of goals."

UP NEXT
• Augsburg hosts St. Olaf in a matchup of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference playoff contenders on Wednesday (10/26) at 7:30 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field.
