Auggies edged in season-opener at No. 2 Gusties

ST. PETER, Minn. -- Chloe Stockinger (JR, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) claimed 29 saves in goal for the Augsburg University women's hockey team, as the Auggies dropped a 1-0 decision to defending NCAA Division III national runner-up Gustavus Adolphus College in the teams' season-opening game on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Despite being outshot by a 30-16 margin, the Auggies were able to keep pace with the No. 2-ranked Gusties. Both teams were scoreless on their power plays, with Augsburg 0-for-3 and Gustavus 0-for-5.
• Gustavus scored its lone goal at the 17:17 mark of the second period, a period in which the Gusties outshot the Auggies by a 12-5 margin.
• Stockinger claimed her 11th career game with 20-plus saves with her 29-save effort.
Malia Schubert (JR, Mantorville, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville HS) had three shots on-goal for Augsburg, while Payton Allen (SR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS), Kennedy Stein (JR, Lake Forest, Minn./Lake Forest HS) and Nora Stepan (FY, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) had two shots each.

FOR THE FOES
• Clara Billings scored from Sophia Coltvet and Brooke Remington for the Gusties' lone goal of the game.
• Katie McCoy had 16 saves in a shutout win for Gustavus.
