Augsburg falls to No. 6/8 Saint John's

MINNEAPOLIS -- Scoring six touchdowns and gaining 485 yards of total offense, No. 6/8-ranked Saint John's University shut out host Augsburg University 45-0 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football contest on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Johnnies scored on their first three possessions of the game, taking a 21-0 lead after the first quarter. Saint John's also took advantage of two interceptions and two fumbles by Augsburg, scoring 17 points on the resulting drives. Two Augsburg drives were stalled at the Saint John's 22-yard line, once on downs and another on an interception. Another Auggie drive ended on a fumble at the Johnnie 27.
• Augsburg was limited to 227 yards of total offense (147 passing, 80 rushing). Quarterback Cade Sheehan (SO, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) completed 11-of-22 passes for 124 yards, with Braden Tretter (SO, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) catching six passes for 65 yards and Dominic Smith (SO, White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) catching eight passes for 38 yards.
Isaiah Thompson (JR, Detroit Lakes, Minn./Detroit Lakes HS) rushed eight times for 32 yards, with Dante Cockrell (FY, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Wayzata HS) rushing seven times for 23 yards.
• Defensively, Jariel Lopez-Barrera (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) and Camdin Carlson-Mathies (SR, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) led the Auggies with 10 tackles each, with Carlson-Mathies adding a pass break-up.
Marcus Santillana (JR, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) had seen tackles, with a quarterback hurry and 1.5 tackles-for-loss.

FOR THE FOES
• Henry Trost rushed for two first-quarter touchdowns, gaining 55 yards on 13 carries. Troy Feddeman rushed six times for 57 yards and a second-quarter touchdown.
• Quarterback Aaron Syverson completed 18-of-30 passes for 214 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing five times for 78 yards and a touchdown.
• Hayden Sanders and Erik Bjork had seven tackles each, and Amari Curtis had 1.5 sacks.
• Saint John's entered the game ranked No. 6 in the latest D3football.com national poll and No. 8 in the American Football Coaches Association Division III poll.
