Auggie power-play shines in series split

WINONA, Minn. – Scoring three goals on the power-play, including the eventual game-winner with 3:41 left to play, the Augsburg University women's hockey team secured a split of a 
Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series with Saint Mary's University, claiming a 3-2 win on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Auggies scored the first two goals of the game, but Saint Mary's tied the game with a goal midway through the second period and another early in the third. Augsburg scored its eventual game-winner on its seventh power play of the game, as Emily Schoeberl (FY, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) scored her second goal of the season, scoring on a rebound in front off of a shot by defender Nora Stepan (FY, Apple Valley, Eastview HS). Tenley Stewart (FY, Esko, Minn./Esko HS) had the second assist on the goal.
Katie Flynn (SR, Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge HS) opened the scoring for the Auggies with a power-play goal 4:47 into the game, connecting on a one-timer off a feed from the point by Payton Allen (SR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS), with Kennedy Stein (JR, Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest HS) receiving the second assist.
Jenna Gerold (SR, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS) scored her first goal of the season at the 6:00 mark of the second period, deflecting home a wrist shot by Emily Cronkhite (SO, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS), following a pass from Allen.
• Making her first collegiate start in goal, Marissa Paaske (FY, Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central HS) was impressive, stopping 27 of the 29 shots she faced to pick up the victory. Augsburg outshot Saint Mary's by a 52-29 margin in the contest.

FOR THE FOES
• Taryn Dornseif and Kennedy Kraus scored goals for Saint Mary's.
• Cardinal goalie Jordan Keeley had 49 saves.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg is idle for the Thanksgiving break, and will be back in action Dec. 2-3 with an MIAC series against St. Olaf.
