HOW IT HAPPENED
• The No. 2-ranked team in the latest USCHO.com Division III national poll, Augsburg fell behind 3-1 early in the second period and had to rally to tie the game three times, finally forcing overtime on an extra-attacker goal from
Austin Dollimer (SR, Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount HS), who tipped in a shot from the point by
Logan Kons (JR, Niles, Ill./Niles West HS), with 34.8 seconds left in regulation time. The second assist was credited toÂ
Mason Palmer (SR, Plymouth, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's).
• Playing in his 67th collegiate game, Blackowiak claimed his first collegiate hat trick and second career multi-goal game with his 3-on-3, overtime game-winner. Following a dramatic save by goalieÂ
Samuel Vyletelka (SO, Zilina, Slovakia/Grammar School of St. Francis of Assisi),Â
Daniel Chladek (JR, Anaheim, Calif./Canyon HS) picked up the loose puck and fed it ahead to
Nick Woodward (SR, Dubuque, Iowa/Dubuque HS). Woodward skated up the ice, and as he was spinning and falling off a St. Olaf check, he was able to feed the puck across the slot to Blackowiak on the left wing, and Blackowiak connected on a wrist shot for his sixth career game-winning goal.
• Blackowiak connected on a pair of special-team goals earlier in the game -- a shorthanded goal from
Gavin Holland (SR, Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) at the 8:54 mark of the second period, and a power-play goal from Holland and
Fritz Belisle (SR, Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing HS) to tie the game at 4-4 at the 7:11 mark of the third period.
• Augsburg ended up 3-for-7 on power plays in the physical game. Chladek opened the scoring with a power-play goal 9:05 into the first period, from
Grant Reichenbacher (SR, Verona, Wis./Madison Edgewood HS) andÂ
Erik Palmqvist (SR, Linkoping, Sweden/Anderstorpsgymnasiet), and Palmqvist scored fromÂ
Michael Ferrandino (SO, Lisle, Ill./Waterloo West (Iowa) HS) and Dollimer to tie the game at 3-3 at the 10:21 mark of the second period.
• Augsburg outshot St. Olaf by a 35-24 margin in the game, including a 3-1 advantage in overtime, and kept St. Olaf scoreless on six power-play opportunities.Â
• Vyletelka had 19 saves in goal to improve to 6-1-1 on the season.
