Auggies drop 78-50 decision at Saint John's

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The Augsburg University men's basketball team headed north to take on Saint John's University in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon, falling 78-50 in the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Auggies hung around early in the game, trailing by just a point at 11-10 near the midpoint of the first half. The Johnnies responded with a 12-2 run, however, taking a 21-12 lead over the Auggies. Saint John's controlled the pace of play for the remainder of the half, taking a 41-22 lead into halftime.
• The Saint John's lead continued to grow throughout the second half, peaking at 34 before the Auggies cut it back to 28 as the final buzzer sounded.
Bradley Winter (SR, Winona, Minn./Winona HS) knocked down five of his 10 attempts from the floor for a team-high 11 points, also grabbing four rebounds and an assist. Conner Knoepfle (SR, Andover, Minn./Andover HS) and Isaac Rabaey (SO, Hastings, Minn./Hastings HS) each contributed 10 points with three and one rebounds, respectively.
Colin Meade (JR, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS) finished with eight points on 3-6 shooting with two rebounds and a steal while Pete Pavelec (SO, McFarland, Wis./McFarland HS) added five points and a rebound.
• The Auggies hit 18 of their 48 attempts from the field (37.5%), including going 4-12 from beyond the arc (33.3%). The Johnnies shot the ball well throughout the game, hitting 35-of-59 (59.3%) and six-of-17 (35.3%) from deep. Augsburg held an edge in points on fast-break opportunities, outscoring Saint John's 5-0 in the category.

FOR THE FOES
• Ryan Thissen was the game's scoring leader with 24 points and eight rebounds while Griffin Rushin added 13 points and Mitchell Plombon tallied 12.
