HOW IT HAPPENED
• Tied at 11 each near the midpoint of the first quarter, the Bennies rattled off a 10-5 run that gave them a 21-16 lead with just over three minutes remaining. The Auggies recorded the quarter's lone bucket within the final three minutes as
Alani Pettis (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./Richfield HS) hit a jumper with 30 seconds left to cut the Saint Benedict lead to three at the quarter break. The Bennies took control of the game in the second quarter, outscoring the Auggies 22-12 to take a 43-30 lead into the locker room at halftime.
• The Bennie lead remained in double figures throughout the third as Augsburg trailed 68-51 heading into the final frame. The Auggies opened the fourth with a 12-2 run that got them back in the game at 70-63, but the Bennies recaptured the momentum and cruised their way to the 14-point win.
•
Anja Smith (JR, Kewaskum, Wis./Saint Mary's Springs HS) and
Jaley Coplin (SR, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) topped the Augsburg box score once again with 15 points each with Smith adding a team-high seven rebounds and Coplin adding two.
•
Kalena Myers (JR, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) was just behind them with 14 points, three rebounds, and two assists.
Katie Manecke (JR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) scored in double figures for the first time with a career-high 10 points in the game, shooting a perfect 3-3 from beyond the arc.
• The Auggies were uncharacteristically poor shooting the ball as a team, hitting 23 of their 64 attempts (35.9%) compared to the Bennies' 30-60 (50.0%) performance. Augsburg held a 15-10 edge in points off turnovers while the Bennies won the battle down low with 32 points in the paint compared to Augsburg's 28.
