MINNEAPOLIS – A four-goal second-period outburst enabled the Augsburg University women's hockey team to take a lead over No. 6-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College in a game which eventually went to an overtime shootout, with the Gusties claiming the extra Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference point following a 4-4 tie on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Gustavus took a 3-0 lead early in the second period, as Emily Olson claimed a natural hat trick with three straight goals. But Augsburg responded in a big way, scoring four goals in a 9:49 span in the second period, taking a 4-3 lead before the Gusties tied it at 4-4 with a goal in the final minute of the middle frame.

Kensie Malone (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./Gentry Academy HS) put the Auggies on the scoreboard, scoring at the 4:44 mark of the second period from Claire Jenkins Coffman (SO, Mount Pleasant, Wis./The Prairie School) and
Kennedy Stein (SO. Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest HS).

Katie Flynn (JR, Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge HS) scored from
Kiley Wahlin (FY, Blaine, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) and
Lilia Scheid (SR, Stillwater, Minn./Middleton (Wis.) HS) at the 11:30 mark, and
Hannah Gold (SR, Mequon, Wis./University School of Milwaukee) tied it at 3-3 just 58 seconds later, assisted by Malone and
Brooke Leone (SR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS).

Alex Collins (SO, Naperville, Ill./Waubonsie Valley HS) scored her first collegiate goal at the 14:23 mark, assisted by Malone and Stein, to give the Auggies a 4-3 lead.
• Neither team scored in the third period or the 3-on-3, five-minute overtime, which sent the tied game to a shootout to determine the extra conference point. Gustavus claimed a 1-0 shootout win in four rounds of action.

Chloe Stockinger (SO, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) started in goal for Augsubrg and made 21 saves in two periods.
Abby Bollig (SR, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS) played the third period and overtime for the Auggies, collecting 10 saves.
• The Gusties outshot the Auggies by a 35-34 margin in the game.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• The four goals scored by Augsburg were more than the total allowed by the Gusties in their last 10 games combined. Gustavus had outscored its opponents by a 42-3 margin over its prior 10 games, going 9-0-1.
• Malone now has a team-best 21 points (11 goals, 10 assists).
Among MIAC players, Malone is now sixth in points, tied for fifth in goals and tied for seventh in assists.
FOR THE FOES
• Olson scored the opening three goals for the Gusties, and assisted on the other Gustie goal, by Brooke Power. Power added an assist for a two-point night.
• Maria Widen had 12 saves for Gustavus in 34 minutes, with Katie McCoy recording 18 saves in relief.

• Augsburg returns to MIAC play with a series against Saint Mary's next weekend. Next Friday's (2/11) game is at 7 p.m. in Winona, Minn., and next Saturday's (2/12) game is at 4 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink.
• A nonconference game against Bethel that was scheduled for Tuesday (2/8) at Augsburg has been canceled.
