Auggie comeback bid falls short in Florida

LEESBURG, Fla. – After having its first scheduled game of the day against Babson College canceled due to severe weather, the Augsburg University softball team's comeback bid came up just short as it fell to Wentworth Institute of Technology 11–8 on a rainy day at the Spring Games at Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex in Leesburg, Florida.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Auggies were on the board first with Sabriya Passmore (JR, Apple Valley, Minn./Apple Valley HS) scoring on an RBI from Meredith Taylor (FY, Randolph, Minn./Randolph HS) in the top of the first.

The Auggies added a run in the top of the fourth when Kayla Hanson (SR, St. James, Minn./St. James HS) batted in Morgan Benson (FY, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS).
• After two more Wentworth runs in the fourth, the Auggies found themselves in a 9-2 hole through four innings of play. The Augsburg offense found life in the fifth and sixth innings, scoring six straight with RBIs from Torrie Rehder (FY, Goodhue, Minn./Goodhue HS), Sara Deming (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS), Olivia O'Connor (SO, White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS), and a three-run home run from Taylor, her second of the season.
• With the deficit now at just one, the Leopards added two insurance runs on a triple in the bottom of the sixth to make it 11-8.
Brynn Hostettler (FY, Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS) got the start for the Auggies and moved to 1-2 on the season, recording four strikeouts, eight walks, and seven earned runs in 2.0 innings of work.
