TUCSON, Ariz. – The Augsburg University baseball team got its first win of the Tucson Invitational on Monday afternoon, splitting an afternoon doubleheader with Dickinson State (N.D.) at Kino Sports Complex to move to 5-4 on the season.
THE BASICS
SCORES: Dickinson State 15, Augsburg 6; Augsburg 13, Dickinson State 10

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Dickinson State got on the board first with one run in both the first and third innings. In the fourth inning, the Blue Hawks added four more runs to take a 6-0 lead.
• Augsburg found the plate for the first time in the bottom of the fourth when
Michael Weiss (JR, Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar HS) scored on a single to left field by
Derek Albers (JR, Dundas, Minn./Northfield HS).
• The Dickinson State bats stayed hot, scoring five runs in the fifth, one in the sixth, and three in the seventh to take a commanding 15-1 lead.
• The Augsburg offense found its only sustained success of the game in the bottom of the seventh, with
Lance Nayman (SO, St. Paul, Minn./Central HS) batting in
Rico Rodriguez (JR, Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) and
Matt Krenz (SR, Becker, Minn./Becker HS) scoring on a sacrifice fly by Weiss.
Kaden Gage (SR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS),
Brandon Lockhart (FY, Oakdale, Minn./Tartan HS) and
Jack Baumgart (SR, Willmar, Minn./Willmar HS) also all scored runs for the Auggies on two separate Blue Hawk fielding errors.

Cam Fischer (SO, Becker, Minn./Becker HS) made the start and took the loss for Augsburg, striking out three and walking one while allowing five hits and just one run in 2.2 innings of work.

Weston Schug (SR, Becker Minn./Becker HS) pitched 1.2 innings of relief, recording one strikeout and allowing nine hits and nine runs.
Ben Kittleson (FY, Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) made his collegiate debut for the Auggies, striking out three and allowing six hits and four earned runs.

Connor Stoik (JR, Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial HS) had another solid game at the plate, recording two hits in three at bats
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• It was Dickinson State getting on the board first again in game two with four runs in the bottom of the first inning.
• The Auggies countered with two runs in the top of the second, with Baumgart scoring on a fielding error and
Tim Lavin (SR, Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) batting in
Carson Tomony (JR, Madison, Wis./Madison East HS). Baumgart gave Augsburg another run in the firth inning with a double to left field that scored Weiss.
• The Blue Hawks added three runs in both the third and fourth innings to take a 10-3 lead.
• Despite the seven-run deficit, the Auggies would not go down easily.
Kaden Gage scored on a Baumgart RBI in the top of the fifth to cut it to six before an eight-run sixth inning that gave Augsburg its first lead of the day at 12-10.
• The Dickinson State pitching staff struggled mightily with control in the sixth, walking in five Augsburg runs and plating another on a hit-by-pitch.
Jake Skogrand (FY, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) also scored on a fielding error by the Blue Hawks. Stoik, Weiss, Baumgart, Tomony,
Ty Gage (SO, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS), and Skogrand each recorded RBIs during the inning.

Kaden Gage added an insurance run for the Auggies in the seventh when he scored on a wild pitch to make it 13-10.

Myer Schmitz (FY, Champlin, Minn./ Champlin Park HS) made the start for Augsburg, allowing 10 hits and seven runs in 2.1 innings of work. Sean Littman (Bloomington, Minn./Bloomington HS) pitched 1.2 innings of relief, striking out one and allowing two hits and one earned run.

Lukas Nyberg (SR, St. Cloud, Minn./Apollo HS) got the win for the Auggies, striking out one batter and allowing one hit in his one scoreless inning of work. Stoik pitched the final two innings, striking out two batters and holding the Blue Hawks hitless and scoreless.
• Baumgart went two-for-three at the plate with three RBIs and a run scored to lead the Auggie offense.
FOR THE FOES
• Jacob Clinton went four-for-five with an RBI and four runs scored to lead the Blue Hawks in game one.
• Mathias Dufner was three-for-four with three RBIs and three runs scored in game two.
