TUCSON, Ariz. – The Augsburg University baseball team dropped its second game of the week against Wesleyan University (Conn.) on Wednesday evening, falling 15-5 in eight innings at Kino Sports Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg struck first in the top of the first inning when
Steven Salz (SO, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) drew a bases-loaded walk that scored
Connor Stoik (JR, Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial HS). The Auggies would add another run when
Michael Weiss (JR, Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar HS) scored on a fielding error by the Cardinals.
• Wesleyan also got on the board in the first, scoring one run on a single by Matt Halas to make it 2-1 in favor of Augsburg.
• The Auggies added another run in the second inning when Stoik brought
Clint Mattson (JR, North Branch, Minn./North Branch HS) home with a double.
• The Cardinal offense got in a groove starting in the second inning, scoring 11 unanswered runs between the second and fourth innings to take a 12-3 lead.

Jack Baumgart (JR, Willmar, Minn./Willmar HS) gave the Auggies their fourth run in the fifth inning, batting in Weiss with a single. After Wesleyan added another run in the seventh,
Kaden Gage (SR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) would give the Auggies their fifth and final run of the game in the eighth with an RBI that scored
Carson Tomony (JR, Madison, Wis./Madison East HS).
• The Cardinals added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth, ending the game early via the 10-run rule.

Matt Moe (SR, St. Cloud, Minn./Becker HS) made his first start of the season, taking the loss for Augsburg with three strikeouts, 10 hits allowed, and six earned runs allowed in 2.1 innings of work.

Dylan Irving (SR, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) pitched one inning of relief, striking out one and allowing three hits and four runs.
Nick Ishaug (FY, Orono, Minn./Orono HS) pitched the final 3.2 innings, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out three batters.
• Stoik went two-for-four for Augsburg, scoring one run and batting in another.
FOR THE FOES
• Evan Diaz went three-for-five at the plate, scoring two runs and recording two RBIs. Kyle Sylvester was two-for-four with an RBI and four runs scored.
