TUCSON, Ariz. – Behind three hits, three RBIs, and four runs scored from
Clint Mattson (JR, North Branch, Minn./North Branch HS) and three other players with at least two RBIs, the Augsburg University baseball team handed Kalamazoo College its first loss of the season, defeating the Hornets 15-8 on Thursday morning at Kino Sports Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Hornets took an early lead in the game, scoring one run each in the first and second innings. The Auggies quickly responded with an explosive effort on offense, scoring five runs in both the second and fourth innings to take a 10-2 lead.
Brandon Lockhart (FY, Oakdale, Minn./Tartan HS),
Mattson, Carson Tomony (JR, Madison, Wis./Madison East HS),and
Jake Skogrand (FY, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) had two RBIs each between the two innings.
• Kalamazoo started to get back in the game with three runs in the top of the fifth, but the Auggies quickly put the game out of reach once again with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth.
• The Hornets added three runs between the sixth and seventh innings, but Mattson and
Connor Stoik (JR, Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial HS) each batted a runner in for Augsburg in the eighth to put the Auggies up 15-8, a lead that would hold for the rest of the game.

Austin Jerylo (SR, Stillwater, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) got the start and earned the win for Augsburg, pitching 6.0 innings and striking out three batters while allowing 11 hits and four earned runs.

Myer Schmitz (FY, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) earned his first career save, striking out two and allowing four hits and two earned runs in 3.0 innings of work.
• Mattson led the offense with three hits, three RBIs, and four runs scored in five at bats. Stoik was also effective at the plate, going three-for-six with an RBI and two runs scored.
• Tomony finished two-for-five with two RBIs and two runs scored while Skogrand was two-for-four with three RBIs and a run scored. Lockhart was two-for-five with three runs scored and two RBIs.
FOR THE FOES
• Harrison Poeszat led the Kalamazoo offense with two RBIs and a run scored, going three-for-five at the plate.
