TUCSON, Ariz. – The Augsburg University baseball team closed out its trip to Arizona at the Tucson Invitational on Friday, defeating Carthage College 9-2 and falling to Kalamazoo College 6-5 in walk-off fashion at Kino Sports Complex.

GAME 1 VS CARTHAGE HIGHLIGHTS
• The Auggies got the scoring started in the bottom of the first when
Jack Baumgart (SR, Willmar, Minn./Willmar HS) singled to left field to score
Michael Weiss (JR, Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar HS).
• Carthage scored a run in both the second and third innings to take a brief lead, but the Auggies quickly jumped back on top with two runs in the fourth off the bats of Baumgart and
Matt Krenz (SR, Becker, Minn./Becker HS).
• Augsburg blew the game open in the seventh inning, scoring five runs to make it an 8-2 game.
Connor Stoik (JR, Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial HS) and
Carson Tomony (JR, Madison, Wis./Madison East HS) each had one RBI in the inning while
Steven Salz (SO, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) recorded two RBIs on a triple.
• Stoik batted in
Kaden Gage (SR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) in the eighth to make it 9-2 in favor of the Auggies.

Jake Skogrand (FY, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) made the start for Augsburg and earned his first win of the season, striking out five and allowing seven hits and just two earned runs in 7.0 innings of work.

Cam Fischer (SO, Becker, Minn./Becker HS) closed out the game and earned the save, striking out three and allowing no hits in 2.0 scoreless innings.
• Baumgart was highly effective as Augsburg's designated hitter, going a perfect three-for-three and drawing a walk while scoring two runs and batting in two more.
• Stoik and
Clint Mattson (JR, North Branch, Minn./North Branch HS) were each two-for-five with a run scored.
GAME 2 VS KALAMAZOO HIGHLIGHTS
• Salz got the Auggies on the board first in game two, batting in Tomony on a double in the top of the second. Kalamzoo responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning to tie it up at 1-1.
• Augsburg scored four runs in the top of the third to take a 5-1 lead with Weiss batting in
Derek Albers (JR, Dundas, Minn./Northfield HS), Baumgart batting in both Weiss and Stoik, and Salz plating Baumgart on a triple.
• The Hornets added one run in both the sixth and seventh innings to make it 5-3 before scoring three in the bottom of the ninth to secure the walk-off win.
• Weiss and Salz led the offense in game two with two hits in four at bats. Weiss scored one run and batted another in while Salz finished with two RBIs.

Luke Johnson (JR, Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS) had a solid outing as Augsburg's starting pitcher, striking out two and allowing just four hits and two earned runs in 6.0 innings on the mound.
• Stoik pitched 2.2 innings of relief for the Auggies, striking out one and allowing three hits and three runs.
FOR THE FOES
• Cody Tostrud was three-for-four with a run scored for Carthage.
• Max Gordon was two-for-four with an RBI for the Hornets.

• Augsburg will now return to the Midwest for a doubleheader against the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Thursday, 3/24 starting at 1 p.m. in Superior, Wis.
