2021-22 D3HOOPS.COM ALL-REGION TEAMS
MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg University men's basketball guard
Joe Palmer (JR, Faribault, Minn./Faribault HS) was named to the
D3hoops.com All-Region 9 First Team, it was announced on Monday.
The structure of the All-Region awards was altered this year following the decision to split Division III into 10 regions this season. A region with 40 teams or more has three All-Region teams honored, while a region with fewer than 40 teams has a first and second team. This reorganization results in approximately 10 additional players being recognized when compared to previous full seasons.
Players named to the All-Region teams are eligible for the
D3hoops.com All-America teams, which will be released on Saturday, March 19.
This is the tenth time that an Auggie has earned D3Hoops.com All-Region honors and Palmer becomes the seventh Augsburg player to take home the award, following
Booker Coplin (first team 2019-20, first team 2018-19) Collin Olmscheid (Player of the Year 2017-18, third team 2016-17), Dan Kornbaum (first team 2013-14, second team 2012-13), Andy Grzesiak-Grimm (third team 2011-12), Nate Alm (third team 2008-09), and Lucas Olson-Patterson (second team 2004-05).
The All-Region honor comes after Palmer was named the
Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year and earned All-MIAC First Team honors last month, becoming the seventh Auggie to be named Conference Player of the Year.
Palmer had a phenomenal season for the Auggies, leading the conference in both points (21.0) and rebounds (9.0) per-game and ranking ninth in field goal percentage (50.8%). His 21 points per-game also ranked him 31st in all of NCAA Division III. Making all 24 starts for Augsburg, he finished the season with 11 double-doubles and scored 20 or more points in 14 games this season, including four 30-plus point performances.
He earned MIAC Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week honors four times this season and was named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week once. A history and secondary education major with a 3.71 grade-point average, he was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team in February.
