Auggies drop contest at UW-River Falls

RIVER FALLS, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin-River Falls built a 13-1 first-quarter lead and claimed a 26-5 nonconference women's lacrosse victory over visiting Augsburg University on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg scored the first goal of the game on a free-position shot by Maylynn Prokopec (SO, Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS), but UW-River Falls went on a 14-goal run to take a commanding lead, which it would not surrender.
• Prokopec scored her 19th and 20th goals of the season for the Auggies. 
• Malia Neumann (FY, Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS) also scored two goals, adding three draw controls and a ground ball.
• Mackenzie Galazen (FY, Kimball, Minn./Rocori HS) scored a goal, also collecting three draw controls and three ground balls.
• Shelby Ramirez (FY, Winthrop, Minn./Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop HS) had two draw controls and a ground ball.
• Emma Meythaler (FY, Golden Valley, Minn./Hopkins HS) had seven saves in the first half, with Lay Reid (FY, West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) claiming four saves in the second half.
• The Auggies were outshot by a 47-11 margin in the game. UW-River Falls had 22 draw controls to Augsburg's 10, and had 26 ground balls to Augsburg's 11.

FOR THE FOES
• Josie Johnson and Emma Heerey each scored five goals and added an assist for UW-River Falls, while Grace Hannula had four goals and four assists.
• Kayden Hersback had four saves in goal.
