Auggie baseball sweeps North Central

MINNEAPOLIS – The Augsburg University baseball team kept its undefeated season alive on Monday afternoon, earning a pair of 9-0 nonconference wins over North Central University at U.S. Bank Stadium to move to 4-0 on the season.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

Michael Weiss (JR, Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar HS) got the scoring started in game one, batting in Connor Stoik (JR, Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial HS) and later scoring on a North Central error at first base to give Augsburg a 2-0 lead.
• The Auggies would add five more runs in the fourth inning with Steven Salz (SO, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) and Jack Baumgart (JR, Willmar, Minn./Willmar HS) plating two runs each and Carson Tomony (JR, Madison, Wis./Madison East HS) scoring on a wild pitch.
• Augsburg kept it rolling in the fifth with Weiss earning another RBI and scoring for the second time on an RBI from Tomony to make it 9-0 in favor of the Auggies.
Austin Jerylo (SR, Stillwater, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) made his second start of the young season, picking up the win with six strikeouts, one walk, and just four hits allowed in 4.0 scoreless innings. Jake Skogrand (FY, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) pitched in relief of Jerylo, tossing 3.0 scoreless innings with one strikeout and just one walk and one hit allowed.
• Stoik finished game one 3-for-4 at the plate with a walk and three runs scored while Weiss went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Baumgart led the Auggies with three RBIs.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• The Auggies wasted no time getting on the board in game two, scoring seven runs in the first frame to take a commanding 7-0 lead.
• Augsburg would add two more runs in the third inning with Tim Lavin (SR, Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) and Stoik each batting in a run.
Luke Johnson (JR, Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS) got the win for Augsburg in the second game, striking out two with just one walk and two hits allowed in his 4.0 innings. Myer Schmitz (FY, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS), Dylan Irving (SR, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS), and Lukas Nyberg (SR, St. Cloud, Minn./Apollo HS) pitched one inning each for the Auggies, allowing no hits between the three of them and combining for two strikeouts.
• Tomony and Clint Mattson (JR, North Branch, Minn./North Branch HS) each recorded three RBIs for Augsburg in the second game.

FOR THE FOES 
• Jack Parker, Julian Encinas, Kristian Garcia, Kyle Huerth, Teyghan Hovland, and Christian Rodriguez each recorded hits for the Rams.
