RIVER FALLS, Wis. – Behind strong pitching performances throughout both games, the Augsburg University baseball team split a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader with St. Olaf College on Sunday afternoon, dropping game one 5-0 and winning game two 2-1.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Game one was a true pitcher's duel, with both starters pitching at least five innings and allowing just five hits. The Oles did all of their damage in the fourth and fifth innings, scoring two runs on a pair of doubles in the fourth and adding two on an Auggie throwing error and another on a passed ball in the fifth.

Jake Skogrand (FY, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) got the start and took the loss for Augsburg, striking out six batters while allowing five hits and five runs in his 5.0 innings pitched.
Owen Bernards (SO, St. Paul, Minn./Central HS) pitched the final 2.0 innings in relief of Skogrand, recording one strikeout and allowing one hit in his time on the mound.

Steven Salz (JR, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) was the lone bright spot on offense for the Auggies in the first game, going a perfect three-for-three with a double and two singles.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• The Oles struck first again in game two, taking a 1-0 lead on a single to right center field in the top of the fourth.
• Augsburg finally broke through in the bottom of the seventh when
Kaden Gage (SR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) batted in
Carson Tomony (JR, Madison, Wis./Madison East HS) with a single through the right side.
• Gage came through for the Auggies once again in the bottom of the seventh, singling through the right side for the second time in a row to score
Brandon Lockhart (FY, Oakdale, Minn./Tartan HS) and give the Auggies their first lead of the day at 2-1.

Myer Schmitz (FY, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) was extremely effective as Augsburg's game two starter, striking out six Oles while allowing just three hits and one run in 5.2 innings of work.

Matthew Rones (SR, Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman HS) was also strong in relief, striking out two while allowing just one hit and holding the Oles scoreless in 2.1 innings of work. Lockhart pitched the final inning for the Auggies, recording one strikeout.
• Tomony and
Kaden Gage were each two-for-three, with Gage batting in both Augsburg runs.
FOR THE FOES
• Hunter Barber was phenomenal for the Oles on the mound in game one, striking out 11 batters while holding the Auggies scoreless and allowing just five hits.

• The Auggies will be back in action on Tuesday (4/12) when they will travel to Saint Mary's for a MIAC doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m.
