MOORHEAD, Minn. – After having its first two Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheaders postponed due to inclement weather, the Augsburg University baseball team finally opened its conference slate on Saturday with a doubleheader split against Concordia-Moorhead.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• The Cobbers wasted no time getting on the board in game one, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead.
• Augsburg responded in the bottom of the second when
Matt Krenz (SR, Becker, Minn./Becker HS) batted in
Carson Tomony (JR, Madison, Wis./Madison East HS) and
Brandon Lockhart (FY, Oakdale, Minn./Tartan HS) scored on a Cobber error. Just one at bat later,
Kaden Gage (SR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) batted in Krenz to tie the game at three each.
• Later in the bottom of the second, the Auggies would take their first and only lead at 4-3 when
Michael Weiss (JR, Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar HS) singled to left field, scoring Gage.
• Concordia-Moorhead would go on to score six unanswered runs to close out the game with a final score of 9-4.

Austin Jerylo (SR, Stillwater, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) was the starter for Augsburg, going 2.1 innings with nine hits and five runs allowed with two strikeouts.

Dylan Irving (SR, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) pitched 3.0 innings of relief, striking out five batters while allowing three hits and three runs.
Matt Moe (SR, St. Cloud, Minn./Becker HS) closed out the game, allowing just two hits and one run in 1.1 innings of work.
• Krenz was the only Auggie batter with multiple hits in the first game, going two-for-three at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• The pitching staff was outstanding for Augsburg in game two, allowing just six hits and one run in the nine-inning contest.
• It was the Auggies striking first this time, with
Steven Salz (JR, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) doubling to left center and bringing Weiss around to score in the bottom of the first.
• The Cobbers tied it back up with a run in the third inning, but Augsburg regained the lead for the final time in the bottom of the sixth when Krenz singled to center field, scoring both Tomony and Salz. The Auggies would add an insurance run later in the inning when
Jake Skogrand (FY, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) scored on a Concordia error.

Luke Johnson (JR, Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS) had a strong outing as the Auggies' starting pitcher, going 6.0 innings and allowing just six hits and one run with two strikeouts.

Myer Schmitz (FY, Champlin, Minn./ Champlin Park HS) pitched 2.0 scoreless innings of relief, holding the Cobbers hitless and striking out one batter.
Connor Stoik (JR, Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial HS) pitched the final inning, striking out one while also holding Concordia both hitless and scoreless.
• Salz and Skogrand each had multi-hit performances in game two, with Skogrand going two-for-three with a run scored and Salz going two-for-four with an RBI and a run scored.
• The Auggies narrowly edged the Cobbers in hits 7-6 in the second game.
FOR THE FOES
• Andy Gravdahl, Matt Gruber, and Wyatt Gunkel each had three hits for the Cobbers in game one.
