Baseball drops two to MIAC-leading Royals

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – Playing as the home team in both games after a weather-related site reversal, the Augsburg University baseball team dropped a pair of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contests to the conference-leading Bethel University Royals on Monday afternoon at Hargis Park.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• The Auggie offense struggled to find a groove all game long, combining for just two hits in the game.
Tim Lavin (SR, Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) and Isaac Flynn (JR, Hastings, Minn./Hastings HS) each recorded hits for Augsburg.
Luke Johnson (JR, Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS) made the start and took the loss for Augsburg, giving up six hits and six runs with four strikeouts in 3.0 innings pitched. Matt Moe (SR, St. Cloud, Minn./Becker HS) struck out two with five hits and eight runs allowed in 1.1 innings pitched and Weston Schug (SR, Becker, Minn./Becker HS) closed the game with two strikeouts and no runs allowed in 2.2 innings.
 
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• Game two was a similar story with Bethel scoring at least one run in every inning and holding the Augsburg offense to just three hits.
Steven Salz (JR, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS), Connor Stoik (JR, Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial HS), and Jake Skogrand (FY, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) were each one-for-three on the day with a single each.
Sean Littmann (FY, Bloomington, Minn./Bloomington HS) got the start and took the loss, allowing four hits and three earned runs with two strikeouts in 3.0 innings of work. Lukas Nyberg (SR, St. Cloud, Minn./Apollo HS) pitched an inning of relief, allowing one hit and no earned runs with one strikeout.
Derek Albers pitched 2.2 innings, allowing seven hits and four earned runs. Owen Bernards (SO, St. Paul, Minn./Central HS) recorded the final out of the game with a strikeout.

FOR THE FOES
• Ty Koehn was nearly flawless in his game-one start, allowing just one hit and walking one batter with four strikeouts in 5.0 innings on the mound.
• Jordan Krupke pitched a complete game shutout in game two, striking out two and allowing just three hits in 7.0 innings.

UP NEXT
• The Auggies will take on Carleton College in MIAC action on Senior Day tomorrow at Parade Stadium beginning at 2:30 p.m.
