Augsburg baseball receives ABCA academic honor

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg University baseball team was recognized by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) with the Team Academic Excellence Award, it was announced this week. Augsburg finished the 2021-22 school year with a team cumulative grade-point average of 3.29.

In order to earn the honor, teams must post a team GPA of 3.0 or above for the entire 2021-22 academic year. Augsburg was one of more than 420 collegiate programs recognized (NCAA D-I, D-II, D-III, NAIA and junior college).

Of the team's 45 players in 2022, 28 Auggies had cumulative GPAs of 3.20 or higher and 21 had GPAs of 3.50 or higher.

14 Auggies earned Academic All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors in 2022 -- Jack Baumgart (SR, Willmar, Minn./Willmar HS), Owen Bernards (SO, St. Paul, Minn./Central HS), Cam Fischer (SO, Becker, Minn./Becker HS), Isaac Flynn (JR, Hastings, Minn./Hastings HS), Ty Gage (SO, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS), Austin Jerylo (SR, Stillwater, Minn./Mahtomedi HS), Luke Johnson (JR, Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS), Matt Krenz (SR, Becker, Minn./Becker HS), Carter Peterson (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS), Rico Rodriguez (JR, Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS), Steven Salz (JR, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS), Weston Schug (SR, Becker, Minn./Becker HS), Connor Stoik (JR, Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial HS) and Carson Tomony (JR, Madison, Wis./Madison East HS).

Under 19th year head coach Keith Bateman, Augsburg finished 14-25 overall, 6-14 in MIAC play in 2022.
