Auggies cruise in sweeps of UW-La Crosse, Pacific Lutheran

MINNEAPOLIS – The Augsburg University Volleyball Invitational wrapped up on Saturday with the Augsburg volleyball team finishing a perfect 4-0 after sweeping both UW-La Crosse and Pacific Lutheran at Si Melby Hall.

FINAL SCORE: Augsburg def. UW-La Crosse 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-19); Augsburg def. Pacific Lutheran 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-21)

AUGSBURG 3, UW-LA CROSSE 0
• Augsburg stumbled out of the gates in the first set, finding themselves in a 12-6 hole early on. The Auggies recovered from there, snatching nine straight points to take a 15-12 lead. The Eagles would not go down without a fight as they scored four straight to regain the lead, but Augsburg had an answer once again in the form of a five-point streak that proved to be the final lead change of the set.
• Roles reversed with Augsburg getting off to a hot start in set two as the Auggies led 10-3 early. The Eagles managed to rally and take a one-point advantage on two occasions, but Augsburg had an answer every time as they took the set 25-22 to go up 2-0 in the match.  
• The third set was tightly contested for most of its duration, but the Auggies found a way one last time as they took the set 25-19 to complete their first sweep of the day.
• Augsburg hit .215 with 14 kills and 14 errors on 121 attempts while the Eagles hit .141 with 43 kills and 25 errors on 128 attempts.
Kevin Boysen (SR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) remained the leader for the Augsburg offense, hitting .313 with 12 kills and five digs in the match. Jade Fullerton (SR, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) also cracked double-digits once again with 10 kills in the match. Kayla Gjerde (SR, Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) added six kills and 11 digs for the Auggies.
Mikayla Coops (JR, Belle Plaine, Minn./Belle Plaine HS) had a team-high 13 digs while Angel Vo (SO, Blaine, Minn./Mounds View HS) was just behind her with 10 digs.

AUGSBURG 3, PACIFIC LUTHERAN 0
• The Auggies were all over the Lutes in the first set, holding a steady advantage throughout the set and cruising to a 25-15 win.
• It was more of the same in the second set as Augsburg used a nine-point streak to help cement a 25-13 victory.
• The Lutes held their own in the third set and kept it close, but Augsburg proved to be the better team as it held on for a 25-21 win to complete the sweep.
• Augsburg was extremely efficient in the match, hitting .366 with 39 kills and just five errors in 93 attempts. Pacific Lutheran hit just .107 with 39 kills and 19 errors on 112 total attempts.
• Boysen and Brianna Van Well (JR, Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) tied for the team lead with 11 kills each with Boysen contributing eight digs and Van Well adding two.
• Fullerton had another strong match with nine kills, two solo blocks, and two assists. Vo led the team in digs with 13 and Coops added eight digs, three kills, and 28 assists.

FOR THE FOES
• Brianne Korducki finished with 11 kills and 13 digs to lead the Eagles.
• Baylee Johnson led the Lutes with 11 kills and a dig.

UP NEXT
• The Auggies will open MIAC play on the road against Saint Mary's on Tuesday (9/13) at 7 p.m.
