Auggie volleyball winning streak reaches 10

DECORAH, Iowa – The 21st-ranked Augsburg University volleyball team wrapped up play at the Luther Invitational on Saturday afternoon, sweeping both Dubuque University and Lawrence University 3-0 and extending its winning streak to 10 matches.

AUGSBURG 3, DUBUQUE 0
• With the first set tied at 9-9, the Auggies opened up some breathing room with a streak of six-straight points to take a 15-9 lead. Augsburg remained in control from that point, earning a 25-17 set win.
• Augsburg got off to a stronger start in the next set, opening up a 10-3 lead over the Spartans. Dubuque never managed to cut the deficit to less than four as the Auggies hung on for a 25-19 win to go up 2-0 in the match.
• Set three was tightly contested for most of its duration with the Auggies clinging to a narrow 20-19 advantage after a late three-point run by the Spartans. Despite the pressure, Augsburg did not flinch as it won five in a row to take the set 25-19 yet again and complete the 3-0 match sweep.
• The Auggies hit .250 with 46 kills and 10 errors on 144 attempts while Dubuque hit .180 with 31 kills and 11 errors on 111 attempts. Augsburg also held an 11-2 advantage in service aces and collected the only four blocks of the match.
• . Kayla Gjerde (SR, Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) finished with 11 kills and 12 digs, marking her third double-double of the season. Brianna Van Well (JR, Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) also tied for the team-lead with 11 kills in the match.
• Kevin Boysen (SR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) tallied 10 digs and eight kills while Angel Vo led the Augsburg defense with 15 digs.

AUGSBURG 3, LAWRENCE 0
• The Auggies were on fire to start the first set, taking the first 13 points of the match. Using another extended streak of seven consecutive points, the Auggies cruised to a dominant 25-9 set win.
• The second set was a similar story as Augsburg held Lawrence to just six kills in the set on its way to a 25-8 set win.
• Augsburg was in control from wire to wire once again in the third set, opening up a 5-0 lead to start the set and never letting it dip below four in the 25-11 win that capped off a perfect day for the Auggies.
• Augsburg was extremely efficient when attacking, hitting .329 with 35 kills and just eight errors on 82 attempts. Lawrence was on the opposite side of the coin, hitting -.037 with 14 kills and 17 errors on 82 attempts.
 •  Emily Kaup (SO, Omaha, Neb./Duchesne Academy) and Van Well tied with a match-high nine kills each, with Kaup adding a team-high nine digs and Van Well contributing three.
 •  GK Lemonds (SO, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS), Georgia Tilton (JR, St. Paul, Minn./Central HS), and Boysen all tied for second on the team with four kills each.

FOR THE FOES
• Emma Powell finished with a match-high 12 kills for the Spartans, also recording a double-double with 12 kills.
• Kylie Naylor led Lawrence with five kills in the match.

• The Auggies will return home for Minnesota Intercollegiate Conference action against Hamline University on Friday (9/30) at 7 pm.
