Auggies draw with Dutch 1-1

MINNEAPOLIS -- Kebba Janneh (SO, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) scored on a penalty kick in the 27th minute, the lone goal for Augsburg University in a 1-1 tie with Central College in a nonconference men's soccer game on Saturday night at Edor Nelson Field.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE:
Augsburg 1, Central (Iowa) 1
LOCATION: Edor Nelson Field, Minneapolis
RECORDS: Augsburg 1-0-1 overall, Central 1-0-1 overall

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg took the lead after Camel Htoo (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Washington HS) was fouled in the 18-yard box after a long drive up the left wing in the 27th minute. Janneh scored on his first career penalty kick attempt.
• Augsburg controlled possession by a 62-to-38-percent margin and outshot the Dutch by a 14-7 margin in the game.
• Central tied the game at 1-1 on a goal in the 34th minute, which capped the scoring.
• Htoo had six shots, including two on-goal, in the game, while Janneh had two shots.
• Auggie goalkeeper Oscar Herrera (SO, Madison, Wis./Madison West HS) had three saves.

FOR THE FOES
• Nathan Casas scored for Central in the 34th minute, heading home a ball from Spencer Taylor on a scramble in front. Alejo Marcon had the second assist on the goal.
• John Foster had four saves in goal for the Dutch.

QUOTES FROM AUGSBURG HEAD COACH GREG HOLKER
• "This was a tough game from the onset, and we showed some cracks in our ability to handle difficult moments. This was exactly what we needed at this point in the season, so many thanks to Central for how they competed so hard and made it difficult for us. We have to learn from this and move forward right away. This tie definitely felt like a loss for us."
• "I thought Mitchell Munzing was tremendous tonight. He was in the right pockets at all the right times, and his defensive pressure was really good. He is so sharp and quick and I am excited to see the next phase of his game grow as he gets closer to the goal.
• "Ceazar Daniell changed the game for us when he entered with his attacking prowess. His first touch is so clean, and it set him up to run at the opposition and force them to make decisions they weren't comfortable with. He was a bright spot tonight."
• "Camel Htoo created some dangerous chances and missed wide twice in the closing minutes of the game. He also drew the penalty in the first half that Kebba put away. He is growing with each day here and is a real talent."

UP NEXT
• Augsburg hosts Minnesota Morris in a nonconference game on Monday (9/5) at 3 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field.
