Last-second goal lifts Auggies to sixth straight win

MINNEAPOLIS – Kennedy Stein (JR, Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest HS) scored an incredible game-winning goal with a half-second left in regulation time, lifting the Augsburg University women's hockey team to its sixth straight victory, a 2-1 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference triumph over visiting Bethel University on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• In the closing seconds of the game, Stein led an Auggie rush into the Bethel zone and fired a shot from the slot that deflected off the Bethel goalie to the right side. Katie Flynn (SR, Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge HS) worked the puck free from a scrum, and Stein fired the loose puck on a backhander into the net for her fourth goal of the season.
• Bethel took the lead on a shorthanded goal with 4.6 seconds left in the first period, but Augsburg tied the game 13 minutes into the second period, as Nora Stepan (FY, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) scored her fourth goal of the season, finishing a give-and-go with Emily Cronkhite (SO, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) with a rising shot that deflected off the goalie's glove and into the net. Flynn received the second assist on the goal.
• Augsburg outshot Bethel by a 38-16 margin in the game, including a 14-6 advantage in the second period and 13-6 advantage in the final period. 
• Making her fourth career start in goal, Marissa Paaske (FY, Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central HS) had 15 saves to improve to 4-0-0 on the year for the Auggies.
• Stein had 10 shots on-goal for Augsburg, while Stepan and Cronkhite had six shots each, and Flynn had five shots.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• After starting the season 1-3-0, the Auggies have gone 7-1-1 in its last nine games, outscoring its opponents by a 29-8 margin in the stretch.

FOR THE FOES
• Anna Hanson had 36 saves in goal for Bethel.
• Lexi DeBace scored a shorthanded goal for the Royals.
