MINNEAPOLIS – The Augsburg University women's basketball team played host to
25th-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday afternoon, falling 55-43 in a defensive struggle in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Gusties were much stronger out of the gates in the first quarter, opening the game on a 10-0 run spanning over three minutes. The Auggies eventually managed to find a rhythm as they outscored Gustavus 10-4 through the rest of the quarter to cut the deficit to four. The Auggies took their first lead of the game at 17-16 with 6:12 to play in the second quarter, eventually pushing the lead to three points at 20-17. The lead proved to be short-lived as Gustavus regained the advantage at 23-22 at halftime.
• The Gusties began to pull away after coming of the locker room from halftime, quickly pushing their lead to double digits and holding it there through the remainder of the quarter. After 30 minutes of play, Gustavus led 45-35. The final quarter was more of the same with Gustavus maintaining a comfortable lead to keep the Auggies at arm's length.

Jaley Coplin (SR, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) was the only Auggie in double figures with 11 points, two blocks, a steal, and a rebound.
Kalena Myers (JR, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) finished with nine points while
Alli Born (FY, Otsego, Minn./Rogers HS) led the Augsburg bench players with seven points.
Samaiya Buchanan (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Hopkins HS) and
Anja Smith (JR, Kewaskum, Wis./Saint Mary's Springs HS) tied for the team lead with five rebounds each.
• The game was a defensive struggle from its outset with Augsburg shooting 34.7% (17-49) and Gustavus shooting just 34.6% (18-52).
FOR THE FOES
• Anna Sanders and Morgan Kelly led the way for Gustavus with 11 points each.
