MINNEAPOLIS – The Augsburg University women's basketball team got back in the win column on Monday evening, securing a 59-40 win over the Bethel University Royals at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Neither team found much offensive success early on, playing to a 5-5 tie more than seven minutes into the opening quarter. The Auggies closed the quarter on a 6-0 run to take an 11-5 lead. The Auggies continued to push their lead and worked it all the way to 12 points early in the second, but the Royals finally managed to find a groove as they cut the deficit to five with Augsburg leading 28-23 at halftime.
• The Royals hung around and only trailed by three with just over three minutes remaining in the third, but Augsburg closed the quarter on a 9-0 run to extend its advantage back to 12 points at the final quarter break. Augsburg dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring Bethel 16-9 to seal the 19-point win.
• Augsburg's second unit was vital to the team's success with
Samaiya Buchanan (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Hopkins HS) and
Alli Born (FY, Otsego, Minn./Rogers HS) both coming off the bench to tie for the team lead and set new career highs with 15 points and six rebounds each. Buchanan was 6-7 from shooting from the field and added three steals while Born knocked down six of her nine shots and logged one block. As a team, Augsburg's bench outscored that of Bethel's 36-14.

Kalena Myers (JR, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) was the only other Auggie in double figures with 10 points, two rebounds, and a team-high four steals.
• Augsburg dominated in the painted area, outscoring the Royals 36-14. Turnovers also played a key role with Augsburg cashing in 27 Royal turnovers for 23 points while Bethel managed just 13 points off 18 Auggie turnovers.
FOR THE FOES
• Courtney Nuest led the Royals with 11 points on 5-12 shooting.
