Auggie women gain sweep with OT win

MINNEAPOLIS – Nora Stepan (FY, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) scored the game-winning goal 2:41 into overtime, lifting her Augsburg University women's hockey team to a 3-2 victory over the College of Saint Benedict and a sweep of a key Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Stepan gave the Auggies the win on a wrist shot from the slot at the 2:41 mark of the 3-on-3 overtime, scoring her seventh goal of the season. Emily Cronkhite (SO, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) assisted on the game-winner.
• Saint Benedict took the lead on a goal 3:56 into the second period, but Augsburg tied the game 1:17 later, as Emily Schoeberl (FY, Eagan, Minn.Eagan HS) scored on a rebound in front off a shot by Stepan, with Dorothy Kearney (SO, Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) getting the second assist.
• Augsburg took a 2-1 lead on a goal with 5.4 seconds left in the second period, as Sydney Rydel (JR, Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) scored her third goal of the season, pouncing on a loose puck in front off of a tip by Claire Jenkins Coffman (JR, Mount Pleasant, Wis./The Prairie School) following a feed from the right side by Kennedy Stein (JR, Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest HS).
• Augsburg dominated on offense, outshooting Saint Benedict by a 43-17 margin. 
Marissa Paaske (FY, Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central HS) improved to 5-0-0 on the year with the win in goal, making 15 saves.

FOR THE FOES
• Ava Stinnett scored at the 3:56 mark of the second period, and Jenna Timm scored at the 12:50 mark of the third period for the Bennies. Aurora Opsahl assisted on both goals.
• Ally Frantzick had 40 saves in goal for Saint Benedict.
