Ponce's hat trick leads Auggies to 5-0 win

MINNEAPOLIS – Jayla Ponce (SR, Kuna, Idaho/Kuna HS) claimed her first collegiate hat trick with three first-half goals, and McKenna Nachreiner (FY, Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee HS) scored a pair of second-half goals, leading the Augsburg University women's soccer team in a 5-0 nonconference victory over the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Ponce scored her first goal of the game on a penalty kick in the fifth minute, after Nachreiner was fouled in the 18-yard box. 
• Her second goal came in the 24th minute, as she collected a pass from Phoebe Alva Rosa (SO, Jackson, Wyo./Jackson Hole HS) on a steal off a clearing attempt, and blasted a shot from the middle of the 18-yard box. She completed her hat trick in the 33rd minute, claiming the ball off a turnover and sprinting 30 yards forward for the goal, her eighth of the season.
• Nachreiner scored her seventh and eighth goals of the season in a 5:53 span midway through the second half. Allison Hookom (SO, Andover, Minn./Anoka HS) threw the ball in to Ponce, who tapped the ball to Nachreiner for a shot from 15 yards out.
• Nachreiner's second goal came on a brilliant feed from midfield by Hannah Hatfield (SO, Rogers, Ark./Rogers HS) in the 77th minute.
• Augsburg outshot UW-River Falls by a 21-10 margin, including a 14-3 advantage in the first half. The Auggies also had eight corner kicks to the Falcons' four.
• Iz Shuster (SR, Waconia, Minn./Waconia HS) and Tess Enlow (SO, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) combined for the shutout win in goal -- Augsburg's seventh shutout of the season. Shuster had two saves in the first half, and Enlow had five saves in the second half.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Ponce's three goals and seven points are both single-game highs for her in an Augsburg uniform. The three goals marked her third multi-goal contest in her 33 career games as an Auggie.
• Ponce and Nachreiner are tied for fourth among Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference players in overall goals, with eight each. Ponce leads the MIAC with 13 assists, and stands second among MIAC players with 29 points.
• Augsburg has now claimed five straight shutout victories over UW-River Falls since the 2012 season, in which the Auggies have outscored by the Falcons by a 17-0 margin. Augsburg is 12-5-3 in its all-time series against UW-River falls, dating to the 1994 season.

• Kaylie Krueger had nine saves in goal for UW-River Falls.
• Aliviah McClinton and Madyson Shew had two shots each.
