Auggies claim 10th victory, 2-0 shutout in Duluth

BOXSCORE DULUTH, Minn. – Phoebe Alva Rosa (SO, Jackson, Wyo./Jackson Hole HS) and Jayla Ponce (SR, Kuna, Idaho/Kuna HS) scored goals for Augsburg University, and Iz Shuster (SR, Waconia, Minn./Waconia HS) had five saves for the shutout victory, as the Auggies claimed their 10th win of the season, and eighth shutout of the year, in a 2-0 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer triumph at the College of St. Scholastica on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg outshot St. Scholastica by a 33-11 margin in the game, including a 12-5 advantage in shots on-goal. A total of 18 Auggies were able to see action in the game.
• Alva Rosa opened the scoring with her sixth goal of the season in the 11th minute. She gained the ball near midfield and drove up the middle, sliding the ball to her right to Abby Rosebur (SO, South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul HS). Rosebur returned the ball to Alva Rosa, who popped an arcing shot from the top of the 18-yard box, and the ball deflected off the goalkeeper's outstretched hands into the net.
• Ponce scored her team-leading ninth goal of the campaign in the 62nd minute. Allison Hookom (SO, Andover, Minn./Anoka HS) drove the ball from midfield to the top of the 18-yard box, and slid the ball left to Alva Rosa, who then tapped the ball to Ponce, who nailed a low diagonal shot to the right corner of the net from about 20 yards out. Ponce now stands second among MIAC players in total points (32, nine goals, 13 assists). She leads the MIAC in assists and is tied for second in goals.
• Shuster claimed her sixth win by shutout this season, and Augsburg's eighth shutout overall on the year, with a five-save effort. She now has 10 shutouts in her college career.
• Ponce had nine shots in the game, including three on-frame, while Alva Rosa had five shots.

FOR THE FOES
• Gracie Meagher had 10 saves in goal for St. Scholastica.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg closes the regular season next Saturday (10/28) at 5:30 p.m., hosting Macalester at Edor Nelson Field. Augsburg is currently in a tie for fifth place in the MIAC standings with 15 league points. The top six teams in the standings qualify for the MIAC postseason playoffs.
