Auggies sweep Knights on the road

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Augsburg University volleyball team returned to Minnesota Intercollegiate Conference action on Friday evening, sweeping the Carleton College Knights 3-0 on the road.

THE BASICS 
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg 3, Carleton 0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-23)
LOCATION: West Gym, Northfield, Minn.
RECORDS: Augsburg 13-11 overall (5-2 MIAC), Carleton 6-12 overall (3-4 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Leading 17-15 in the opening set, Augsburg would go on to claim six of the next eight points to take a 23-17 lead. Carleton managed to cut the deficit to just two with a four-point run of their own, but the Auggies slammed the door with two of the final three points to win the set 25-22.
• Augsburg dominated out of the gate in set two, opening a 12-3 lead before cruising to a 25-13 win to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
• Though Augsburg held a narrow advantage for a majority of the third set, the Knights strung together an 8-1 run that gave them the lead at 21-20. The Carleton lead grew to two at 23-21, but the Auggies finished strong for the final time with four straight points to win the set and complete the sweep.
• Augsburg owned nearly every category of the box score, outhitting the Knights .218 to .087 and holding a 36-30 advantage in kills, a 12-7 edge in service aces, and a 72-62 advantage in digs.
• The duo of Torrie Rehder (JR, Goodhue, Minn./Goodhue HS) and Angel Vo (JR, Blaine, Minn./Mounds View HS) anchored Augsburg's defensive effort, finishing with 22 and 18 digs, respectively. Vo also added a team-high 13 set assists for the double-double.
Bri Van Well (SR, Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) was the top attacker for Augsburg once again, tallying 14 kills and hitting .300 in the match. Madison Gully (JR, Cedar, Minn./St. Francis HS) ranked second on the team with eight kills while hitting .400.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• With 14 kills in the match, Van Well now ranks second in the MIAC and 11th in all of NCAA Division III with 338 total kills this season.
• Rehder ranks second in the conference this season with 422 total digs.

FOR THE FOES

• Sylvia Dixon led the Knights with 11 kills while hitting .258.
• The Carleton defense was paced by Annelise Sokolow with 21 digs.
