Bati repeats as MIAC champion

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Winning his second consecutive Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title, Mohammed Bati (SO, Dodola, Ethiopia/GAP School) won the men's 8k by nearly 18 seconds at the MIAC Championships on Saturday morning.

AUGSBURG MEN
• Bati claimed the individual title in the men's 8k by more than 17 seconds for the second straight year, finishing the race in 24:23.8, the second-fastest clocking in conference championship history and just over a second off his personal-best 8k time. With his win, Bati becomes the first Auggie ever to win multiple individual cross country titles, and just the second overall after Taybri Iriving won the women's crown in 2016. Bati is the first MIAC men's runner to repeat as conference champion since St. Olaf's Grant Wintheiser claimed three straight individual titles from 2012-14. Bati has now tallied nine sub-25-minute 8k times and eight individual wins in just 12 collegiate races.
• Getinat Asfaw (SR, Eagan, Minn./Rosemount HS) was the second Auggie across the line, finishing in 27:03.2 to land in 55th place overall (42nd team)
• Bereket Wondimu (JR, Eagan, Minn./Burnsville HS) was the next Auggie to finish in 27:53.5, landing in 91st place (60th team). Just behind him was Shareef Oty (FY, Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville HS) in 93rd place (61st team) with a time of 27:56.2, a new personal record for the first-year.
• Finishing off the scoring for the Auggies in 99th place (64th team) was Joseph Kubly (SO, Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS), clocking a new personal-best time of 28:12.0.
Zinabu Engstrom (SO, Colorado Springs, Colo./Coronado HS) finished 108th in 28:20.4, and Grayson Harris ended in 128th place with a time of 28:58.1.
Henry Nelson (SO, St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) finished 136th in with a time of 29:28.4 and Eman Clement (FY, Stone Mountain, Ga./Towers HS) rounded out the Auggie men in 164th with a time of 31:32.3.

AUGSBURG WOMEN
• The Augsburg women were paced by Gracie Johnson (SR, Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing HS) in 30th place overall (26th team), an improvement of 13 spots from last year's conference championships. Johnson finished the six-kilometer race in 23:33.7, shattering her personal record by nearly 20 seconds.
Aleka London (FY, Park Rapids, Minn./Park Rapids HS) was the second Auggie to finish, clocking a time of 26:46.5, a new personal record, to finish in 129th place (70th team). Brooklyn Conrad (SO, Ortonville, Minn./Ortonville HS) claimed 139th place (71st team) with a time of 27:11.3 and Annabel Lantz (JR, Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) finished in 162nd (77th team) with a time of 29:11.4. Mikalah Konz (SO, Bingham Lake, Minn./Windom HS) finished 172nd (79th team) with a time of 33:18.7.

• The Auggies will compete at the NCAA Division III Regional Championships on Saturday, November 11 at Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax, Wisconsin with the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire serving as the hosts.
