WINONA, Minn. – The Augsburg University volleyball team got back into the win column on Friday evening, topping Saint Mary's University 3-1 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play in Winona.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Mary's held a slight edge for most of the opening set, but after trailing 16-17, Augsburg won five consecutive points to take a 21-17 lead. The Cardinals cut the deficit to just one at 22-21 in favor of Augsburg, but the Auggies took the final three points to take set one 25-21.
• Set two played out in similar fashion with the Auggies finding themselves trailing 18-16 late in the set. Augsburg dominated from that point, winning nine of the final 10 points, including seven in a row, to take the set 25-19 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
• Augsburg held a match point opportunity at 25-24 in set three, but the Cardinals managed to stay alive with three consecutive points to take the set 27-25.
• Augsburg dominated out of the gates in set four, working out to an 18-4 lead before coasting to a 25-13 win to take the match 3-1.
• The Auggies outhit the Cardinals .191 to .080 in the match, also holding advantages in kills (51-43), service aces (8-6), blocks (7-5), assists (47-37), and digs (84-77).
• Outside hitter
Bri Van Well (SR, Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) was excellent for the Augsburg attack, hitting .333 with 22 kills and four digs in the match.
Emily Kaup (JR, Omaha, Neb./Duchesne Academy) also gave a strong all-around effort, notching a 17-dig, 11-kill double-double, her sixth of the season.
Elizabeth Oster (FY, Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) had her best match yet, finishing with a career-high eight kills while hitting at a .615 clip.

Torrie Rehder (JR, Goodhue, Minn./Goodhue HS) finished with a team-high 21 digs while
Brier Ziemer (SO, Carver, Minn./Chaska HS) and
Elise Uphoff (FY, Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield HS) also finished in double digits with 10 and 11, respectively.
Jovial King (FY, Caledonia, Minn./Caledonia HS) led the team with 23 set assists and
Angel Vo (JR, Blaine, Minn./Mounds View HS) added 18.
FOR THE FOES
• Kali Olson recorded 16 kills for the Cardinals while Ciarra McNally finished with 11 kills and 10 digs.

• The Auggies will host a triangular tomorrow at Si Melby Hall with matches against St. Olaf at 2 pm and UW-Eau Claire at 4 pm.
