WINONA, Minn. – The Augsburg University women's hockey team traveled south to take on Saint Mary's University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference bout on Friday evening, falling to the Cardinals 3-2 at Saint Mary's Ice Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Cardinals opened the scoring with a goal near the midpoint of the first period, later extending the lead to 2-0 with an early goal in the second period.
• Just a few minutes later,
Kennedy Stein (SR, Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest HS) managed to gain control of a bouncing puck just outside the crease and beat the Cardinal goaltender to cut the deficit to one.
• With just over 11 minutes remaining in the game,
Emily Cronkhite (JR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) provided an equalizer for the Auggies, circling the net and firing a shot near the right faceoff dot to tie the game at 2-2.
• Less than three minutes later, the Cardinals scored a shorthanded goal that would prove to be the game winner, taking the contest 3-2.
• The Auggies edged the Cardinals 31-27 in shots on goal, also holding a 14-10 advantage in blocked shots on the defensive end.
Emily Schoeberl (SO, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) and
Elizabeth Fagerlind (JR, Kasson, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville HS) picked up assists on Stein's goal, while
Sydney Rydel (SR, Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) provided a helper on Cronkhite's goal.
Chloe Stockinger (SR, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) had 24 saves in goal for the Auggies.
FOR THE FOES
• Reese Heitzman scored two goals for the Cardinals while Sophia Paduano provided the third goal and eventual game winner.
• Celeste Rimstad ad 29 saves in goal for the Cardinals.
