HOW IT HAPPENED
• After being tied 5-5 early in the game's opening quarter, the Auggies put together an 11-3 run to take a 16-8 advantage. The Saints controlled the rest of the quarter, going on a 9-0 run of their own to take a 17-16 lead at the first quarter break. St. Scholastica dominated the second quarter, growing its lead to nine at 34-25 at halftime.
• After the St. Scholastica lead grew as high as 19 in the third quarter, the Auggies showed resilience with a 14-1 run to close the quarter and cut the deficit to six at 49-43. A three pointer from Wakinyela Bear (SO, Morrison, Colo./Meskwaki HS) with 7:11 remaining in the final frame saw the deficit shrink to just two points at 50-48, but the Saints managed to turn away the Auggie surge as they stayed on top for the remainder of the contest on the way to a 64-58 win.
• The teams shot at nearly identical clips from the field, with Augsburg going 21-of-51 (41.2%) and the Saints hitting on 21-of-52 (40.4%). The Auggies were the stronger team in the lane, outscoring the Saints 32-22 in the painted area. Augsburg also held a decisive 13-2 advantage in fast break points.
• Bear put together the strongest outing of her collegiate career thus far, scoring a career-high 19 points on an efficient six-of-seven shooting performance, including hitting four-of-five from beyond the arc, while adding three rebounds and two steals.
