MINNEAPOLIS – Using a 28-8 third-quarter run to take a big lead, Gustavus Adolphus College pulled away from Augsburg University in a 74-48 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball victory on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg kept pace with the Gusties, the No. 10-ranked team in the latest D3hoops.com national poll and No. 15-ranked team in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division III national poll, through most of the first half. The Gusties used an 11-2 run to take a 25-17 lead after one quarter, and led 40-28 at halftime. A 13-2 run in the opening 4:17 of the third quarter gave the Gusties a 23-point lead, a lead expanded to as many as 32 points down the stretch.

Wakinyela Bear (SO, Morrison, Colo./Meskwaki HS) and
Melanie Delestrez (SO, Lake Stevens, Wash./Lake Stevens HS) led the way for the Auggies, each scoring 12 points. Delestrez was 5-of-9 from the field and contributed a team-best nine rebounds, while Bear had two steals.

Kalena Myers (SR, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) scored 10 points, adding three assists.

Katie Manecke (SR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) and
Saylor Gallagher (FY, Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) scored four points each, with each adding two assists.
• Augsburg connected on 30.9 percent (17-of-55) from the field, compared to 49.2 percent (31-of-63) for the Gusties. The Gusties outrebounded Augsburg by a 45-30 margin and held a 42-24 advantage in points in the paint. The Gusties scored 23 points off of 23 Augsburg turnovers, while Augsburg scored 11 points off of 20 Gustie miscues.
FOR THE FOES
• Rachel Kawiecki led Gustavus with 14 points, three rebounds and three assists for the Gusties, while Syd Hauger scored 12 points with four rebounds.
• Morgan Kelly came off the bench to score 10 points with four rebounds and two assists.
