Auggies drop 3-1 decision to Oles on the road

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Augsburg University men's hockey team opened its weekend series against St. Olaf College on Friday evening, dropping a 3-1 decision in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Following a scoreless first period in which the Oles narrowly outshot the Auggies 11-9, St. Olaf took control in the second period with three goals separated by just over 12 minutes.
• Augsburg dominated much of the third period as it outshot St. Olaf 21-10, but Ole netminder Thomas Lalonde managed to turn away all but one of Augsburg's nine shots on goal. Michael Ferrandino (JR, Lisle, Ill./Waterloo West HS) had the lone goal of the evening for the Auggies, finding the back of the net for the first time this season with 36 seconds remaining in regulation. Daniel Chladek (SR, Anaheim, Calif./Canyon HS) was credited with an assist on the play.
• In goal for Augsburg, Samuel Vyletelka (JR, Zilina, Slovakia/Grammar School of St. Francis of Assisi) faced 33 shots on net, making 30 saves.
• For the game, St. Olaf edged the Auggies 33-27 in shots on goal and 55-48 in total shots. Augsburg held a 13-11 advantage in blocked shots. Each team had three opportunities with a man advantage, with Augsburg going 0-for-3 while the Oles were 1-of-3.
Fritz Belisle (SR, Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing HS) led the Auggies with eight shots, including three on goal, while Erik Palmqvist (SR, Linkoping, Sweden/Anderstorpsgymnasiet) took seven shots, six of which were on target.

FOR THE FOES

• Tyler Cooper and Tony Leahy each had even strength goals for the Oles while Matthew Pointer tallied a goal on the power play.
• In goal for the Oles, Thomas Lalonde made 26 saves on 27 shots faced.
